Republican activists are incredulous: Why can't Republican Mitt Romney seem to break open a tight race with President Barack Obama given the nation's sluggish economy and conservative enthusiasm to beat the Democrat?
"He ought to be killing Obama, and he's clearly not doing that," said 32-year-old R.J. Robinson, one of the thousands of activists attending the annual Values Voters Summit this weekend. "He should be doing better."
Added Mike Garner, a 27-year-old hawking "Reagan was right" buttons at the meeting: "If Romney loses this election, the party really needs to do some soul-searching."
Their sentiments were echoed in interviews with more than a dozen GOP activists and social conservative leaders who attended the annual gathering focused on social and cultural issues and sponsored by the Family Research Council.
The summit was filled with rhetoric meant to fire up the party's base voters. Romney needs them to turn out in force at the polls in November and, between now and then, to convince others to do the same through extensive get-out-the-vote grassroots canvassing in swing-voting states...

Why would a liberal political chameleon whose own supporters can’t stand him be winning?
Even against the worst incumbent Democrat in history.
Obama wins, we lose. Romney wins, we still lose.
Like I said, I’m being generous.
Brilliant.
There's more to it than that. This parking lot was full of cars with political messages - lots of pro-life bumper stickers, lots of NRA's, Smith and Wesson, etc. Not one of them put a Romney sticker on there though.
Here is the last line from the Bammy leads Tex and Ok article.
"*No attempt to identify the party affiliations of the respondents was made, we simply kept calling people until we got the answers we wanted."
Not so much satire as it is an astute observation of communist behavior.
I think 2012 GOP turnout will be even more than 2010. I don’t know about anyone else, but I was mad as hell at Zero in 2010 and couldn’t wait to vote. Since mid-2011 we have had the dirty campaign of lies, Zero’s executive orders bypassing the law (while Congress does nothing to stop him), the wimpy Supreme Court upholding Obamacare, Fast and Furious, and NOW when these bastards were warned 3 days in advance about pending attacks on our embassy... Well, let me just say that being mad as hell in 2010 is NOTHING compared to the rage I feel now.
I am not alone in feeling this way. I think the majority of conservatives feel this way, and I believe that GOP levels in the 2012 election will surpass 2010 levels.
AS LONG AS WE DON’T BELIEVE THE CRAP POLLS THAT USE 2008 PERCENTAGES AND CLAIM OBAMA IS AHEAD. Those polls are designed to try to dampen our spirits.
If Romney loses, the problem isn't the GOP it's the voters.
Am I trolling? Well, I work full time, and had some time off this weekend. I finally had enough of seeing polls that over-sample Dims which are being pushed on us as the truth.
This has been exposed over and over, and yet they are still using the same methodology of 2008 party weighting.
Then I start reading comments from Dims saying that “ALL these polls can’t be wrong...”
The lame-streams really are trying to make everyone believe something that is false by continually publishing crap poll after crap poll.
So this weekend, I decided as one person, I would try to get the message of the truth out. And yes, I have been harping on about this one message in a lot of comments because it is a pretty damned important message: The lame-stream media is perpetuating a lie by dishonest polling that over-samples Dims. If you are a conservative, then for pete’s sake, look at the poll internals before you get down-hearted and believe it.
I’m new to all this. I am one person, and coming here and leaving comments is the only way I know how to get this message out.
And I believe it is important to give people some proof of what I am claiming: hence the reference to the Wisconsin Recall result that exposed the lies in their 2008 party weighting methodology.
If you want to call that trolling...
