Diplomatic, western posts targeted repeatedly in Benghazi in run-up to deadly assault
FOX ^ | Sept. 15, 2012 | Catherine Herridge

While the Obama administration says there was no actionable intelligence that could have prevented the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, there was a heightened threat in the region due to at least four attacks on diplomatic and western targets leading up to the murder of the U.S. ambassador.

"This (the U.S. Consulate) was a place that was targeted months before with an IED (improvised explosive device)," Congressman Mike Rogers, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, who has been briefed on the attack and investigation, told Fox News. "It's clearly a target that they wanted to hit and they wanted to cause casualties. I find it -- a little the glaring question of a 9/11 date. It's just too many coincidences here."

Stevens & his security had to know this. So, why did they make this trip on Sept 11th of all days?

Somewhere in the midst of this mess....I think we will find that someone invited Stevens over to Benghazi, as part of a overall plan. I doubt if Stevens ever suspected he was in danger and figured that local Libyan security folks would take care of him.

I think, ultimately, it’s Stevens’ responsibility to decide whether it’s safe to make the trip there. The decision was his.

And Bush was blamed pre 9/11 for not “connecting the dots”.

They are in denial that there are such objective findings as anniversary commemorations of terrorist attacks because that is part of the discarded “war on terror” templte. Why heighten security for a figment of the imagination of deranged anti-IslamistS? It’s a replay of the way the left in this country scoffed at anti-communism.

Yes, he was invited there. That came out soon afterward.

“I doubt if Stevens ever suspected he was in danger and figured that local Libyan security folks would take care of him.”

But he should have. That’s what the article is pointing out. And he should have taken the date into account.
He can’t be absolved of making a terrible decision. He can always say he’s busy and can’t be there that day.

Indeed.

Between early June and early August, there were at least four attacks on Western targets in Benghazi, including one on the consulate. So . . . we send our Ambassador there on the anniversary of 9-11 after receiving intelligence from the Egyptian government that unpleasantness is expected in Cairo on 9-11 and after Zawahiri releases his video calling for revenge for the death of his Libyan second in command. And our Ambassador has only locals for security - no Marines, no Blackwater.

What could possibly go wrong?

Incompetence at the highest levels of the State Department. What role did the White House play in this disaster?

“So . . . we send our Ambassador there...”

See, that’s part of what I’m getting at. He isn’t ordered to go. He’s invited. If he has something else on his schedule for that day, he goes another day.

I recall early reports of a planned relocation by Libyan security, but I could be mistaken. Nonetheless, it doesn’t make sense.

Did you see the docudrama, Path to 9-11?

I’m beginning to suspect I was the only person watching ABC the night it aired.

Should the State Dept have sent out a high alert as soon as they had word as to what was going on in Cairo even in the days before? Yes.

I’m just saying that ultimately, he has the responsibility to make the decision to go or not.
He isn’t operating in a vacuum there. He knows the consulate was attacked previously. He knows he’s working in an unstable country.
Maybe the date never made an impression on him for some reason. I don’t know why he made the trip.

Note the word “actionable” because it is critical. What they’re saying is there was intelligence, but not that we would act on. Why not? Who is setting the rules for action?
