Bob Dylan is not a kneejerk leftist and was roundly criticized by the left for walking away from their cookie-cutter Red politics.
The guy is a student of history and of American culture, as well as being an important part of American culture in his own right.
His points are valid: the legacy of slavery has poisoned this country's political discourse for a very long time, the fact that slavery ended in a brutal war rather than being phased out is a tragedy that took an immeasurable toll of our country's best, and real change is not about government programs or elections but about personal behavior.
The quality of the discussion here is the type I would expect to find on DailyKos.
I agree.
And I should add, that I’m not even that big of a Dylan fan.
Having said that, I would point out that he wrote the most pro-Israel song ever, “Neighborhood Bully”.
Thanks, wideawake. I agree with you.
I agree.
Dylan is more conservative (and intelligent) than most people here are willing to believe. And he, fortunately, has little concern for political fashion or what others think of him; he is his own man.
Read Johnny Cash's dedication to him on the Nashville Skyline album cover sometime.
I am don-o and I approve this post. I was just about to sigh and move on. Well done. And spot ON RE: the level of discourse. I am see drool dripping on many keyboards.
