A Marine Expeditionary Unit has about 2200 men, and I’d consider that a mild response to an attack on our people. Only eight Marines? Granted, they were Marines, and they were only going up against lightly trained thugs, but that’s way too little force to deal with a mob. A real leader would not worry so much about looking provocative, he would make the other side worry about looking provocative. Sadly, we’re stuck with Obama for another 130 terrible, dangerous, and destructive days.
Going in with such a light force reeks of Foggy Bottom involvement and/or a political calculation at the embassy to let the Libyans take the lead. Also reminiscent of Clinton not allowing tanks in Somalia. What a FUBAR!
