The Wall Street Journals Peggy Noonan is criticizing Mitt Romneys response to the death of a U.S. diplomat in Libya, telling Fox News today she doesnt feel that the Republican presidential nominee has been doing himself any favors in the past few hours.
I was thinking as he spoke, I think I belong to the old school of thinking that in times of great drama and heightened crisis, and in times when something violent has happened to your people, I always think discretion is the better way to go, Noonan said. When you step forward in the midst of a political environment and start giving statements on something dramatic and violent that has happened, you're always leaving yourself open to accusations that you are trying to exploit things politically.
In a statement last night, Romney slammed the Obama administration for sympathizing "with those who waged the attacks" rather than condemning the attacks outright. Romney doubled-down on that attack today during a press conference, telling reporters the statement was akin to apology" and that it was disgraceful to apologize for American values.
But Romney's effort to politicize the violence in Libya was met with blowback not just from the Obama administration but from the media. "[Romney's] doubling down on criticism... is likely to be seen as one of the most craven and ill-advised tactical moves in this entire campaign," Time magazine's Mark Halperin wrote on his blog.
Noonan's criticism delivers a harder blow, however, coming as it does from high within the ranks of the conservative establishment. Indeed, it is just the latest in a string of criticisms Romney has faced from the right's most influential media outlets in recent days, including The Wall Street Journal editorial page and the Weekly Standard.
I don't feel that Mr. Romney has been doing himself any favors, say in the past few hours, perhaps since last night, Noonan told Fox News. Sometimes when really bad things happen, when hot things happen, cool words or no words is the way to go.
Wonder if Peg knows Sarah Palin called Obie d!ckle$$?
I’ve tried to give her every benefit of the doubt, but will no longer. She has no clue what she is talking about. She is living in a small unrealistic world in which political gamesmanship, and the craftsmanship of political imagery is central.
In the real world, Peggy, people die because of appeasement and political policies like those embraced by the dangerous ideologue whose speaking ability you’ve admired. History is replete with dangerous ideologues who could weave a nice story and manipulate with their rhetoric, and often they have been responsible for the deaths of thousands if not millions.
Life isn’t about playing political chess. It’s about having principles, and living by them. Romney was and is entirely correct, and should be congratulated for saying what needed to be said. Your thoughtless diatribe has already been seized upon by the left, and is being used against the party you supposedly support. Do you really believe that this is just another election? Really?
Noonan sold out to the Dark Side a long time ago.
Noonan is so out of touch. Now is the time to use her writing skills to promote Romney at this stage of the campaign. She acts as if she has no clue that she adds to the State Owned Media’s effort to paint Romney as incompetent in foreign policy. This is not the time for armchair critiques that chimes the talking points of the State Owned Media. To do so only shows lazy thinking and total disregard for the political realities and the impact one makes when you play into the hands of freedom’s State Owned Enemies.
"He climbed steep stairs, born off the continent with no father to guide, a dreamy, abandoning mother, mixed race, no connections. He rose with guts and gifts. He is steady, calm, and, in terms of the execution of his political ascent, still the primary and almost only area in which his executive abilities can be discerned, he shows good judgment in terms of whom to hire and consult, what steps to take and moves to make."
Peggy Noonan - gushing about Obama
What a joke. Noonan a conservative? She supported Obama in 2008. She is the one doubling down.
OMG. I just saw a clip of her this morning. She has to be on prescription meds.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again:
Peggy who?
All ‘Nooner’ has going for her is a ton of words and her willingness to pontificate endlessly absent of any real backing of intelligence.
Go away and PLEASE STFU!!!
EXACTLY! She’s reached the point, usually reserved for liberals, where absolutely no one deserves hero-hood. They’re ALL wrong, however infinitesimally. She has become Drury’s Walter Wonderful.
Shut up Noonan.Prissy bitch.
Noonan was disgraceful and displayed her whinny stupidity with her out-of-touch comments today. Mitt was perfect and obama was a failure, as usual.
That has-been is just looking for a reason to vote for Obama, as she did in ‘08. Why does anyone pay any attention to this attention addict?
” Peggy Noonan: ‘Romney Looked Weak Today’ “
Too many bottles of wine....too many NYC liberal friends.
Noonan = RIP
This attack was Obama’s fault for killing OSB and taking credit for it 327 times.
Romney is helping himself with people who don’t believe we are responsible for Islamic violence. As time goes on, it appears these protests and killings had less to do with a stupid movie and more to do with the agenda of radical Muslims.
Well said..
Remember when Gaddafi bought it, and Hillary responded, “We Came, We Saw, He Died”?
Can you imagine how outraged our press would have been had that happened on Bush’s watch? Hell, when we captured Saddam, they were mostly concerned that Saddam got a fair trial.
We are at war. With islam, china and with globalist banksters. At least Mitt recognizes the fact that the former is one of the enemies.
NOONAN IS A nothingburger......SHE TRIES to sound SMART but she;s just a Moderste Democrat stupid woman.
Over educated, highly opinionated windbag whose ship sailed years ago.
