In fairness to Hillary, this is script, she's not this stupid. Neither is her boss, he's just concerned about the election.

Stupid may not be exactly the right word.
Naive may be better; she’s “all in” on the Obama idea that if we downplay American exceptionalism and Christianity and so forth that the world that hated George Bush will do a one-eighty and love us.
It just never occurred to her that she (and Barky) might be completely wrong about that strategy, and it’s hard for her to wrap her head around that possibility.
Taking one for the team has gone on for way too long. Time for them all to desert the ship.
