Romney Struggles to Gain Traction in Battlegrounds
Wall Street Journal ^ | Sept 9, 2012 | Sara Murray

With two months to Election Day, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney faces the disconcerting reality that he isn't winning most of the states he would need to beat President Barack Obama.

Mr. Obama is leading Mr. Romney by small margins in seven of the eight battleground states, all but North Carolina, according to averages of public polls compiled by RealClearPolitics. All are within the margins of error.

"Our problem in our country is not that we're not paying enough taxes," Mr. Romney said. "It's that we're spending too much money and the economy is not growing as it could and should."

"It's still a very difficult economic environment, and there's plenty of time for Romney to rally," said Mark McKinnon, a former political adviser to President George W. Bush. "Sixty days is like sixty years in political time."

The media is in the tank for Obama. We need to get over that and accept it. I don’t trust them at all, but if they are correct our nation is in worse condition than I feared because I know what Obama brings and Romney is a better starting point than 4 more years of Obama. Anyone who disagrees lives in a different reality than me. They need to open their eyes and realize just how serious our debt/entitlement problem is. They need to admit that we won’t fix this level of stupid in four years or even eight.

Anyone who thinks four more years of this circus will give us the conservative messiah is an idiot! Our nation and the world economy are in financial cardiac arrest and we have “conservatives” on this forum that spend all day spamming against the only alternative to the Obamanation.

I get it, many of us don’t like or trust Romney. I have the same problems, but Obama is killing us. Our debt has doubled and projected debt has exploded. The rule of law is crumbling and our economy is in shambles. Obama spent his first term paying off his special interests and giving us another gigantic government entitlement instead of trying to fix the economy. Businesses will not hire as long as this guy is in office and we can’t even approve something as obvious as the Keystone pipeline??? Yet, to hear many on this forum talk there is no difference between the candidates?

The GOP has been a trainwreck for decades, but the Tea Party gave us some new faces that give me a glimmer of hope. Conservatives have won a few primary battles to remove part of the GOP problem and scared the establishment. This is the moment we should fight with renewed resolve to get rid of Obama and continue to push congress to the right. If we sit on our hands because “our guy” did not win the primaries we will surely lose.

“If we sit on our hands because “our guy” did not win the primaries we will surely lose.”

Newflash. All you Mittbots said we would surely lose if we chose anyone other than Mitt. You claimed he was ‘electable’.

Guess what - clearly a myth. Mitt was never electable, you just claimed he was to destroy all the actual conservatives.

I’m not sitting on my hands - I’m voting Goode! Mitt’s done people, why side with a loser?

I was never a Mittbot. He was not in my top 4. I liked Perry, Cain, Gingrich, and Santorum. They lost. There is little doubt in my mind that the conservative vote in the primaries was fractured and that certainly helped Romney.

So here are my choices.... Romney won the GOP primaries and represents the only chance to get rid of Obama and repudiate his policies. I am sure that I will disagree with Romney often, but I disagree with Obama constantly. We have to get rid of Obama.

I am amused to see so many here who claim that we should forget about the Presidential race since there is no difference in the candidates and focus on electing conservatives to congress. I agree.... we need to work on congress, but who would best work with a GOP congress? Obama (I won-executive orders/czars) or Romney who has a history of trying to please those around him? Seems like a GOP congress would get more done with Romney vs Obama? Perhaps it is too late for our nation considering so many Americans supposedly approve of the job Obama is doing. I will cast my one vote in a state that Obama will probably carry handily. No regrets.

Your vote. If you truly believe Romney is as bad as Obama there is no point in further discussion. I have a feeling that half this forum would celebrate an Obama victory. Seems kind of strange does’nt it?

RE:
“yep, story doesn’t fit well for Zer0.

Romney is way up in fundraising and cash. Zer0 is in debt. omney’s crowds are huge Zer0 barely fills a small venue
Pollsters tell us Zer0 is way up.

How does one explain this dissonance?”

Well, first of all, you are ignoring the news today. To the surprise of nearly everyone, Obama beat Romney in fundraising in August, at $114 million.

Hey, Walter, I loved the way you took the crowbar to the neighbor’s Corvette in The Big Lebowski. If people got who you are, virtually, they might understand why you posted that above:

“Fall for what?
Romney is an autistic Gordon Gekko in magic underpants. He couldn’t build a rapport with a god damn prostitute. You don’t need anything but a couple functioning senses to figure that one out.

Maybe his essence plays better on Kolob but this guy is an alien to any American from any walk of life. But i’m sure if Howard Hughes was alive today he and Romney would get along splendidly.”

What is there to celebrate? The destruction of the republic under a democrat or a republican?

There’s been nothing to celebrate since the GOP agreed to this mutual suicide pact with the nomination of Romney.

They want Romney, I will have no part with them.

As for getting rid of Obama, what good is it to replace him with a Republican who believes in all the same things?

Right. Been playing this tune for awhile now. What do I get for being right about Romney’s electability?

GOPe should have given us a conservative candidate and none of this would be happening. Totally GOPe’s fault and certainly not people who live and breath by principles. Poor GOPe is starting to worry...too bad.

Still carrying the Left’s bilgewater I see.

It seems you are when you are supporting Romney. No other Republican has been this far left. I guess you are a leftie now too.

Maybe he should use Obama’s strategy— just go out there and spew lies to the gullible masses. Oh wait- that won’t work because the media won’t have his back. At this point Romney should go after his character. Let a pac throw a commercial out there with Ayers and Rezko. It can’t hurt to throw in frank Marshall Davis, his commie mentor. Show it in the Midwestern states along with the democrats booing God.

How could speeches seen by 3 million people, move the national poll numbers by millions and millions of people, who didn't see the speeches? Just wondering.

And if these speeches were SOOOOOO good, why are people still talking about Clint Eastwood's appearance at the RNC?

“because there isn’t going to be anything left of the US as we know it. “

Do you really think this nation is so weak that any person as President for 4 years will doom her to her grave?

Obama as prez is nothing but a manifestation of the people of this country. They wanted what he was offering. The fact is we have a system that allows bribery through welfare, and anyone who knows history knows once the people can vote themselves money from the treasury the nation is doomed. Our entire system is so corrupt that the likes of Obama simply take advantage of what the people have created as a system of government.

Voting a prez isn’t going to change things. We have to change the people and protect the system from corruption. Our founding father didn’t add income taxes or expect the courts to agree to government theft or Communist control such as ObamaCare, but we have it, and no prez will change that.

You got it right.

Obama is not the disease, he’s just the symptom of the disease.

The GOP’s palliative or hospice care isn’t much to get worked up over.

"averages of public polls compiled by RealClearPolitics"

How in the hell does a thread built around an article built around nothingless 'RCP averages of public polls" get any traction whatsoever?

'RCP averages' are utterly meaningless because they subsume abjectly diverse methodologies (NA, LV, RV, party projections, big samples, small samples, secret sauce) into one big compost pile and expect roses to bloom.

What actually grows from a compost pile -- when covered in MSM shite -- are mushrooms, only fit for consumption by pigs.
