For a long time I have been predicting that Mitt Romney would get the Republican nomination, and that he would then win the general election. I have said that the election will be reasonably closedemographic realities dictate that all national elections will be reasonably close, for the foreseeable futurebut not a squeaker; more like 2004 than 2000. Given President Obamas dismal record, that seemed like a safe prediction.
But it now appears that the election will be very close after all, and that Obama might even win it. It will require a few more days to assess the effects (if any) of the parties two conventions, but for now it looks as though the Democrats emerged with at least a draw, despite a convention that was in some ways a fiasco. In todays Rasmussen survey, Obama has regained a two point lead over Romney, 46%-44%. Scott Rasmussen writes:
The president is enjoying a convention bounce that has been evident in the last two nights of tracking data. He led by two just before the Republican convention, so he has already erased the modest bounce Romney received from his partys celebration in Tampa. Perhaps more significantly, Democratic interest in the campaign has soared. For the first time, those in the presidents party are following the campaign as closely as GOP voters.
So the Democrats red meat, over-the-top attacks on Republicans apparently worked at least as well as the Republicans more positive, low-key approach.
On paper, given Obamas record, this election should be a cakewalk for the Republicans. Why isnt it? I am afraid the answer may be that the country is closer to the point of no return than most of us believed.

“2. Scott Rasmussen ISN’T a prophet. Again, another FReeperism is taking the word of Rasmussen as Gospel; it isn’t. He’s ONE polling outfit, ONE point of data. And as far as Rasmussen goes, he just had a poll that showed more Americans are registered GOP than in any poll his outfit has taken. So, all the Republicans are going to vote for Obama? Don’t think so.”
+1! I was just thinking about this 20 minutes ago.

No sniveling! :)
Exactly!
Which one of Rasmussen’s polls is accurate? The guy is s pollster, period.
I stand by my prediction that this election will be a blowout win for the GOP.
I do not think Ras has that new demographic implemented yet in his sampling.
Which one? The record number of registered GOP voters?
Yep!
Yep!
Like the updated tagline?
Yep! >:o)
Thanks! :)
TY! I was just reading that.
Simple but true! No need to read any further.
This thing is comprised of state by state polls of (1,200 - 1,500)LV by state.
Not me, I have been skeptical of the ‘Romney will crush Obama’ lines being posted here since the primary ended. Only the week before Romney announced Ryan was this paused because those on talk radio like InGraham said Romney was losing, but a few days later we were told Ryan was the magic formula and it was back to the victory dance.
I have gone back to Fall 2008 post many times and it's a very similar story, “The polls are not real. McCain will crush Obama”
Yes, the economy sucks and the job numbers suck but Romney/Ryan have been running a campaign on nothing hoping that the bad economy will wash them into victory. The numbers wizard Ryan is forced to join Romneys ‘just look over there and vote for me, you can trust me to work out the details later’ campaign.
Meanwhile Obama and Dems have been destroying Romney for months going after his character and all Republicans characters making the case that it was they that created this mess and it was they who stopped all those great jobs bills and because they only care about the rich. There is no one responding to these attacks.
It is looking like another 2006 Maryland Ehrlich(R) vs O Malley (D) race. O Malley destroyed RINO Ehrlich's character while Erhlich stuck with a single losing theme "He will raise your taxes but I wont" which no one believed (the second part.)
> “The result of teaching those bad Republicans a lesson was gay marriage, government controlled healthcare, gun control, abortion and many others issues that conservatives are passionate about.”
Romney will give you all the above yet will lie to your face and in public that he will not do these things.
Romney is a liar. This is a fact and is factual. What sets him apart from other politicians who are said to lie is that he is aware he is lying. Others may fail to keep promises and be called liars but Romney knows when he is lying and he knows he never intends to keep his word.
As Soros said when it comes to Obama or Romney, there isn’t much difference.
I'm no fan of Glove, but the guy does play to win. The frigging DNC just finished up, he's got mountain$ of ca$h to play with and he's just starting to use them. R2 will win.
Fortunately, the whole of the USA isn't Maryland or Massachusetts and there are still Americans who live (and want to continue living in) America. The elections of 2009 and 2010 did happen and people are suffering.
The misinformation campaign by the Soetoro folks was unleashed and I'll say it again, the kneejerk brigade are losing it.
I still think that Boehner taking control of the House made winning back the WH more difficult, it gave Obama a foil without those Republicans being able to accomplish anything(anything good anyway).
Yes, Boehner has stopped any new Democrat/progress ‘reforms’ programs from passing the House but in return Obama can now claim that the country was on the way to recovery until Republicans ‘took the congress’ and blocked everything for their stated goal to make him lose re-election. Meanwhile we got another $3T in debt.
What can still help Republicans is lack of enthusiasm to vote by those Dems or leaning Dem, minorities and single women in swing states, the race is down to 9 states or less and our states are not one of them .
I suggest Reason #0:
(0) Romney is NOT a conservative.
Romney may be "better" than Bam-Bam, but that's not saying much.
