Charles Krauthammer reacts to former President Bill Clinton's address to the 2012 Democratic National Convention: "I think it was a giant swing ask a miss. Mighty Casey and Bill Clinton is a natural, he struck out on this. I don't think it would move a needle whatsoever. Look, it had all the classic Clinton elements; it was engaging, it was humorous. In some cases, it was generous and there are more mentions of the Bushes than I heard in three days in Tampa, but on the other hand it was also vintage Clinton. In that it was sprawling, undisciplined and truly self-indulgent. This is one of the strangest nomination speeches I think ever given; it was kind of an amalgam between a State of the Union address, a policy seminar and what sounded to me like a campaign speech for a third Clinton term."

“Hillary will be well past her sell-by date in 2016.”
That is pretty damnned generous of you. Right now Hillary
makes Madaline Halfbright look good. By ‘16 that haggamuffin
will be borderline Helen Thomas butt-ugly. For some reason
however, something tells me either she or Bill may not be with us
when ‘16 rolls up. Of course bill is always in jeopardy of crossing
a jealous husband.
Clinton is a DISGRACED, IMPEACHED ex-President who was accused of RAPE and SEXUAL HARRASSMENT!!
Good point as well on the Castro Bros. It was like a finger in the eye to the Republicans saying 'Hey we have a Rubio too.'
A lot of good insight on this thread tonight. Like another poster said if anyone knows the Clintons it is here at FR.
Just like the old days. A Clinton thread.
He doesn’t have a history of getting anyone elected except for himself.
By November this will be forgotten.

I agree, by the way, that any enthusiasm generated by this speech will be gone in a few weeks, if not days, that Clinton wasn't able to help many other candidates when he campaigned for them, and that this will play well mostly with the committed democrat base - which includes the media.
You have hit on the key...Hillary is looking more like Barbara Mikulski every day. Then too, there’s the stamina question. A presidential campaign is extremely taxing physically...and she’d be 67 thru 69 during a WH run. A short, dumpy 68 year old woman will have real problems doing that, IMO.
I disagree that it was a swing and a miss.
No one tells lies as well as Clinton, and he was in good form.
It may not move the needle much in the election overall, but I would expect it played very well among the Democratic base and the mainstream media (but I repeat myself).
It’ll have a Vince Foster dead body bounce...
The Secretary of State is a non-political position. Hillary would be way out of line if she attended this convention.
Well, as you probably know, not too well. Of course in San Antonio, they STILL hype Cisneros as the guy who hung the moon and most of the stars.
The big laffer to me is that prior to Castro's speech, the local media hyped him like he was a shoo-in for 2016. And, after the speech and ESPECIALLY after Clinton's speech the following night, you would think that Castro had been relegated to the children's table. As usual, Clinton sucked the air out of the room and, by this time next week, no one will remember that he gave the keynote address. IOW (as I suspected it would) his speech fell flat and failed to make the name for him that he needed for national recognition in '16 and a shot at the DNC nomination.
Frankly, I have always been suspicious of both Castro brothers' goals but, IMO, aligning himself with zero's radicalism will not boost him up the DNC ladder. He looks like a used car salesman and, worse, he governs like a used car salesman.
