Wow! Terrific screed. Yours is one of the voices that needs to be heard in the effort to understand solutions to government induced problems. As Reagan said, “Government does not solve problems. Government IS the problem.”
How do we wean people from the government teat and get union swine out of the feed troughs? By cutting it off. Churches and civic organizations will take up the slack.
We are not a nation of selfish cowards only government has made us so. There is a crisis of compassion brought on by the belief that all human need can be addressed by a government program. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
You’re speaking of “weaning”, initiated and guided by people who care. That is a laudable goal with hope for the future. Community can, with time, adapt.
Matt is speaking of “cold turkey”, inflicted and enforced by impersonal circumstances. People don’t take sudden starvation well. The majority missing 9 meals in a row is a sure path to civil war.
You’re just addressing a good idea in the wrong context. Start another thread and discuss it there. This one is about “EBT cards shut down overnight”, not “persuade the government to wean the able off welfare”, each topic having a very different outcome.
