That's faster than one shot every two seconds, with iron sights and a bolt-action rifle.
Most likely, martial law will be declared and roads blockaded with checkpoints. So no one will be able to go anywere witout a pass (or a bribe). The Federal Government operating at its usual level of efficiency will really muck things up. There will be arbitrary seizure of property, etc.

One thing you may not be taking into account: the urban underclass is economically unproductive. They DO NOT have the skills that would enable them to earn an income that would allow them to feed and house themselves in a free market economy. They can only survive (at what they consider a minimal economic level) by looting the middle class, either directly through crime, or indirectly through government benefits.
For the last few decades, the middle-class has been buying peace through the use of welfare. When they see that peace can no longer be bought, there is no further incentive to pay for something that is not being delivered.
So what happens when the middle class, while it is still a voting majority, decides to end the looting?
A dark vision, Matt, but probably closer to a coming reality than we think.
I don’t think we’d have to have food shortages to trigger off some serious rioting. I believe our biggest cities will erupt in race riots if Obama is defeated in Nov.

Some of the MUYs will have military training, but lots of other people do, and I don't suspect the coordination will be there on the part of the MUYs to pull too many of these off.... what with counter-response and advance preparation.

Thanks for posting. Any Matt Bracken piece deserves our attention. This article reminds me to stock up on foodstuffs, buy more ammo and perhaps another weapon.
Practically speaking, an EBT cancellation is not likely to happen because America has always been awash in food, and one of our biggest agribusiness problems is too much food.
Since FDR, the government has purchased and (expensively) warehoused vast amounts of food that eventually rots. If EBT fails, no problem, the government just declares that EBT holders, instead of getting their food via retail distribution, get it issued to them by government food warehouses. Remember Reagan’s cheese giveaway? It saved the government millions of dollars.
A much greater threat to our food supply is if something very bad (like a strike) happens to our railroads. They transfer such *vast* quantities of food and merchandise continually, that a single day of them not operating could cost our economy a half billion dollars. And another half billion dollars every day thereafter.
The next big problem is a massive natural disaster, most likely either a massive California earthquake or a massive New Madrid area earthquake.
Close behind them would be a super tidal wave that devastated one or the other of our coasts.
