Carter is the reason I became a Republican when I turned 18 in ‘78. I was a 16yo junior in HS in ‘76 and we did a mock debate and election. I wanted to be Carter and wound up being Ford. I went up against a girl who graduated as a junior, yet totally won the debate (and Ford won the election in my school-in NYC.)

A card-carrying Democrat member of our family, also from NY, tore up his card during Carter.
Republican ever since.
