Mitt Romneys speech:
1. As well delivered a speech as Ive seen Romney give.
2. Hate, hate, hate the word humanize, but if the main purpose of the speech was to counter the Gordon Gekko, cold-hearted capitalist caricature of Romney and connect to suburban women, married women then it was probably pretty successful.

Given how the Democrat propaganda machine is reacting, apparently it worked. It was not a speech for a “conservative” audience. It did not reach me but then I am all ready voting against O not for Romney.
I thought it was a good speech, well I liked them all. I wasnt really a Romney man before, but i have grown to like him. He seems like a very decent person, unlike Zero.
Seems he knows what he is doing biz wise, which is what is really needed now.
But i cant shake the strange sensation that zero will win again... I sure hope I am wrong. My state is very red so it wont matter as much.
looking fwd to eating LOTS of crow :)
Since the media is going nuts, I say yes.
I thought it was a home run over the fence. He said “exceptional” or “exceptionalism” probably a dozen times, used the dreaded “C” word (Constitution), and overall I thought that with the exception of the Medicare line, Ronald Reagan easily could have given this speech.
The Romney speech and everything leading up to it this week was inspiring. I believe we’ll have a landslide win in November. :) Paul Ryan’s speech though... to me, was the best speech of the week.
He wasn’t Reagan, or even Rubio, but I thought he did a very good job. I was actually amazed that he seemed to hit all the right points.
Now I know every line is rinsed through focus groups, and I personally remain concerned that Romney will lapse back into a solid RINO mode, but last night certainly sold me. Romney loves America and he is a man of chracter.
The contrast between Romney and Obama is now even more stark then ever.
All of Obama’s self declarations that he understands and loves America are completely hollow to me. Obama’s actions over the last four years demonstrates that. Obama can telepromt whatever he wants, but fundamentally, deep down, Obama just does not really understand America. To me, this was made crystal clear last night.
I think Romney struck the right tone and gave swing voters a reason to abandon Obama this time around.
I believe if he had launched a direct, hard hitting attack on Obama he would have triggered a defense response with those who voted for him in 2008 but are disappointed in his performance.
Romney showed tham an alternative without making them feel as if they were foolish in supporting Obama the last time around.
I believe his speech was ever so more effective by what he didn't say. Though, with this being said, I was very pleased with the speech as a whole. .....I will help you and your family. What more needs to be said.
Well I am reassured by your take. I guess it just did not connect for me since it was a speech for independent or leaning voters, not for those like myself who cannot fathom how ANYONE is going to vote FOR 0 in Nov.
As much as freepers want the world to revolve around us, it doesn’t.
We here are all in two camps already, and nothing will change that: either we are casting a vote for Romney with the goal of beating obama, or we are casting a vote for a third party. Nothing will change either of those possibilities once one of us has made his mind up.
So, alas, he wasn’t talking to us.
He was talking to that decisive group, the beloved independent voters who will decide the election.
And in that regard, Romney did a great job.
He might actually win.
I agree. I am convinced Romney/Ryan will win by a clear and strong margin. Don’t think a landslide, but a clear and convincing win.
I just went through the Scott Walker recall slog. Weeks in advance I posted here that Walker would win with 52% of the vote and that I believed people were spring-loaded just waiting to vote for him. I was dead on.
Romney/Ryan wins in November with roughly 300 EVs.
My liberal BIL’s head is explosing all over Facebook! According to him the Rep convention was just one big lie from start to finish, of course he offers nothing to back up his accusation. Poor guy is going to be on suicide watch come 11/7.
I’m seeing posts along the line of “Obama couldn’t succeed because of those obstructionists!” In other words, the Wascally Wepublicans (in Congress etc.) stopped him from getting his way. Yes, it’s our fault.
But those conservative voices in Congress got elected didn’t they? And... “elections have consequences”.
Correct, as usual.
Romney's speech threaded the needle - it appealed to conservatives without turning away the mushy-brained, it effectively countered the Richie Rich attacks launched by the libs, and it attacked Obama with a hint of disappointment and regret. Romney talking about Obama's failures reminded me of the look I got from my Dad when I told him I got a "D" on one of my math tests. Very effective. :)
This convention has to package for the independents. It did that well.
The left made the mistake of setting a low bar for Romney. All he had to do is come out and 1) not be evil 2) not be a rapist.
He did that. He spent alot of time talking about women, which should undo this ‘war on women’ nonsense.
I think the most important part was explaining what Bain Capital is....and expressing bewilderment at Barry’s attack lines about Bain. Bain is an American success story...why does Barry dislike that so much?
I think it was the best Romney could do...one thing I did notice, as I flipped through ABC/NBC/CBS....CBS and NBC had the crowd noise turned down, to make it seem more like a funeral than a rally.
Absolutely. And today he gets it right by going to New Orelans. Obama = talk. Romney = action.
I was thinking yesterday before the speech that Romney has beed criticized for lack of emotion, but maybe that is part of who he is.
Some men work best in crisis situations because they are savers, rescuers and they can’t and don’t waste time or energy on emotion. They are always ready to throw out the life-line, but never show any emotion while they are doing it. They just get to work and they are more likely to thank you for your co-operation in getting that job done than to wait around for you to thank them.
I know because my husband is this type of man, has top level crisis management training from the government and volunteers for every disaster that comes along, if he can contribute, shows very little emotion, outwardly.
The left were waiting for some self incriminating statements by Romney.
EG-
* During the restructuring of Staples and Sports Authority, etc. Bain had to lay off 12,000 employees.
* When he was away on business and Ann told him that the 5 boys were acting up, he had to discipline them by spanking them.
* Mormons have a much different idea than most people about the afterlife that needs to be explained.
Ain’t going to happen...none of it...never, and no need.
You’re on your own lefties.
