Palin did hit Obama hard with her speech but, it was big on insults with little on substance. I like Sarah a lot, but her speech in 2008 wasn’t as intelligent or genuine as Ryan’s speech tonight, and Ryan comes across as a little more serious. Whats the word we all love to hate? Gravitas.
I know Sarah is a rockstar in this place but that’s my opinion. *runs for cover*
I LOVED Sarah’s speech but it mainly fired up the base.
I get the sense Ryan’s speech may have actually won over new voters.
Both incredible speeches though. Both Reaganesque.
What substance was there to hit Obama on then? She mentioned a few of his votes as I recall. And she nailed him on being not much more than a community organizer. That was all the substance there was to work with. Since he had never done anything or had a real job, there wasn't a record for her to point to.
I think Sarah in her speech had a powerful sense of gravitas like few women have, combined with a kind of middle-American glamour that helped make her speech electrifying. I think Ryan rose to the occasion and made a speech that was about as strong and effective as Sarah's. I'd still give the edge to hers though. I think she characterized Obama better, defined him better as a person that wasn't right for the presidency. Ryan was a little dryer than that, running through the facts and figures and his record, but not personifying him enough as a negative character.
Apples and oranges.... Obama had no record as President and very little history in the way of votes. He was very inexperienced, but the media gave him a pass because he was a black democrat. Palin did not have 3.5 years of failure to address and pick apart like Ryan did tonight. Why does everyone pile on Sarah? It’s really amazing how people in both parties drink the kool aid when it comes to her.
