TRIPOLI, Libya - A shrine and mosque belonging to followers of Sufi Muslims has been bulldozed in the Libyan capital.
It is the third attack on a Sufi shrine in Tripoli in recent months. Officials have blamed past attacks on ultraconservative Muslims known as Salafis.
The mystical Sufi movement of Islam reveres such shrines. Many Salafis view Sufis and the shrines as heretical.
Resident Abdullah Zakaria says he saw the bulldozers destroy the Sufi tombs Saturday morning. Hours later a group of men bulldozed a mosque in the same area that also contained tombs.
Security officials closed the road leading to the mosque but did not intervene to stop the men from razing the shrines.

Salafis are bad news wherever they turn up. With ample funding from the Saudis, they are trying to establish beachheads all over the West. They need to be squelched.

(Just like in Egypt, of course.)

In one of the Babylon 5 plots a civilization of religious zealots had created bio-weapons intended to ensure the strictest piety and respect for the religion. The weapons killed everybody. Nobody lived up to a machine’s view of religious piety. The problem with Islam is anybody is authorized to kill anybody else who is viewed as not properly Islamic enough. Wow, and to think I had problems when my neighbor took over the homeowner’s association with the tiny power that gave him. Despite the fact he and his buddies were the biggest rule violators the rest of us frequently got sued. Imagine him with the right to kill me for not being Islamic enough.
The only thing that has kept any of them alive is that, unlike a machine, they can lie to themselves and cheat on or ignore the rules. But whenever any Muslim wants to they can whip out the Muhammad Card on infidels and other Muslims alike. It's psychosis wrapped in a cleric's robes.
