The most disturbing aspect is, here was a guy who was a 6-term Congressman, who sat on the Committee for Science and Technology, and who had access to the world's best think tanks and research relative to science (and abortion). And yet instead he relied on the writings of some crackpot doctor.

It's either a breathtaking example of utter ignorance or a case of picking the most dumb-downed explanation to support your beliefs, i.e. it's easier to claim "they have a way to shut the whole thing down" versus having to intellectually debate science, values, and life.

THIS IS THE KEY to the whole controversy. Every one with a smitten of intelligence knows exactly what he meant by the words LEGITIMATE RAPE. The REST of the public apparently wants to CLAIM that the word LEGITIMATE , as used, implied that RAPE WAS OK. That is what he is apologizing for , and I concede your argument that he ‘apologized’, albeit only for the public’s ignorance.

On to the second ‘source article’, it would seem that most of the opinions on that thread agree with the lower fertility rate during rape.
