In 1837, the 27 year old Frederic Chopin wrote of the greatest warhorses of the piano repertory. When people think of Chopin, they think of this piece. He asked his students to play the spooky opening notes as if they were stepping carefully through a charnel house. The “trio” section in A Major is sweet, and the turn to C# minor is an introduction to a run for the right hand that requires extreme agility. I could never get it up to speed. Follow the score if you dare!
