That was the risk all along. The only way to avoid it was for Akin to step aside, and even that was not a sure thing.

We need our politicians to do some hard thinking about their positions. If they cannot articulately defend them, they need to learn how to, fast. Everything is national now. Something stupid said at a BBQ in East Gimcrack doesn't stay there anymore...it goes around the world instantly.
