ST. LOUIS, August 23, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) Now that Todd Akin has said he will be staying in the race for Missouris U.S. Senate seat, senior pro-life and conservative leaders including Phyllis Schlafly, Gary Bauer, and others are telling the Republican Party establishment to back off its over-the-top campaign to have him step aside. Phyllis Schlafly, Eagle Forum founder, supports Todd Akin. Phyllis Schlafly, Eagle Forum founder, supports Todd Akin.
Phyllis Schlafly, who emerged on the conservative scene with her 1964 book A Choice Not an Echo, rapped party elites for disenfranchising their own voters. I dont think people like that should make the decision, she said. The people of Missouri should make that decision.
Both national pro-family leaders and local grassroots conservative leadership are confused and offended by national party leaders such as Karl Rove, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, and Charles Krauthammer, who have vowed to cut funds from Akins candidacy or pushed him to withdraw from the race.
Columnist Ann Coulter has suggested Republicans stage a write-in candidacy for former Governor Kit Bond.
The on-going parade of public denunciations by various GOP leaders is over-the-top and counterproductive, said Gary Bauer, a former presidential candidate and leader of the Campaign for Working Families, in a statement e-mailed to LifeSiteNews.com, Some of their public attacks on Akin have been more aggressive than anything some of these leaders have ever said about Barack Obama and his truly radical rejection of the sanctity of human life and his promotion of abortion-on-demand paid for by the taxpayer!

Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation had a personal stake in the issue. The child of rape, he said, Quite frankly, Im glad such a pro-family, pro-life stalwart, despite a few bumps and lots of scrapes, is not quitting under pressure from hypocritical pro-abortion radicals and spineless Republicans.
Iowa Congressman Steve King, who faced his own media feeding frenzy over abortion remarks taken out of context this week, was as blunt, stating that George Soros-funded media are now dictating the response of leading Republicans.
The Show Me states conservative leaders have flocked to Akins side, as well.
John Putnam, Missouri state coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots, said the national party should be circling the wagons around their candidate, not condemning him.
Akin won his races with a family-fueled campaign that defied the states Republican establishment. That has led local media to conclude he owes them nothing.
If he loses the race, the Republican Party will not take back control of the U.S. Senate. But pro-family leaders say if the Republicans replace Akin, they will almost certainly lose the race.
After allegations of sexual indiscretions in sealed divorce records, which were leaked to the media, Republican leaders pressured Jack Ryan to withdraw from the 2004 Illinois Senate race, said Vision America Action President Dr. Rick Scarborough. Thats how we ended up with Barack Obama in the White Housea steep price to pay for Republican squeamishness.
Missouri voters who gave Akin the GOP Senate nomination are wise enough to decide who theyd prefer to send to Washington, ultra-liberal Clair McCaskill or a decent man and an authentic conservative who misspoke, he said.
Many see the tempest-in-a-tea-party as little more than an attempt to marginalize pro-life voices within the Republican Party. Judie Brown of the American Life League wrote, This is really not about Akin at all; it is about the red herring that pro-abortion forces have used for years to define genuine pro-life apologists as zealots, fanatics and unrealistic Pollyannas.
Despite Akins remarks, Public Policy Polling, a Democrat-leaning firm, found him polling one point ahead of Democratic incumbent Senator Claire McCaskill, 44-43. GOP voters dislike McCaskill so much theyre not going to vote for her no matter what their nominee does, the firm found. Independent voters havent moved at all either.
Putnam said from his perspective, the only way Akin can prevail is if the pro-life community gets behind him and makes this a national campaign.
Exactly! Put that with the one who 'claimed' to be raped [but actually weren't] the number gets even smaller.

DISCLAIMER:
The above doesn't mean that I think all women who claimed to be raped are lying, it's just that there is a segment of the population who will lie at the drop of a hat to prevent from putting their own ignorant actions in an unfavorable light.
“If youre so worried about how Akin is going to make up the 12%, then I suggest you stop actively campaigning against him. I suspect, though, that that will never happen because you are a pro-abort troll.”
So I see, no legitimate answer to my 12% question is there?
Only the tired, trite recourse to personal insult.
Hey I have an idea for you, all you pro Akin supporters pool you money and run an ad stating that anyone who is asking Akin to step down is a, how did you phrase it oh yes...”A pro-abort troll”
Lets see how that argument works for you outside the safety of an internet post.
Akin a dead man walking.
As even your comment illustrates he used the expression legitimate rape.
So it is up to you to defend illegitimate rape.
My job, as I see it, is to expose the game you're playing.
“Playing the victim is the sign of a desperate man.
So you’re claiming the threats aren’t real?”
So are you saying getting a death threat is an extremely rare event that doesn’t happen?
The fact that he went public with it tells the whole story.
Police investigating reported threat against Akin
Not too bright, though.
“My job, as I see it, is to expose the game you’re playing.”
Ok, then tell me why he had to issue an apology for his statements.
If he was on solid ground, he would have defended what he said using different terms.
He said what he said, and he meant what he said.
If youre so worried about how Akin is going to make up the 12%, then I suggest you stop actively campaigning against him”
Face political realities here, Akin has 2 million dollars for his campaign, McCaskill over 12 million and now that it looks like she will win, she will really have the money and support pouring in.
He has, in the latest poll, 38% which is his core support in Mo as far as Republicans are concerned.
He has to win by winning over moderates and independents, the very people he drove away with his remarks, and no matter how much he apologizes, he will not win back enough of them to win.
Maybe some unborn children will forgive him in the future because the circumstances of conception is an irrelevant basis for inflicting capital punishment on the conceived. All of his misunderstandings notwithstanding, we know for certain that he understands this basic fact. Does Romney? Not at all!
I always think of this:
Mary MacGregor: Robert, there is more. I am carrying a child and I do not know who is the father.
Robert Roy MacGregor: Ach, Mary...
Mary MacGregor: I could not kill it, husband.
Robert Roy MacGregor: It's not the child that needs killing.
If youre so worried about how Akin is going to make up the 12%, then I suggest you stop actively campaigning against him

There are some people here who would have any woman who is raped put on trial to see if she is lying.
If a young girl who is raped and then has an abortion, they would put in jail for life because she has committed murder.
I think we might get further in the pro-life movement if we educated people about alternatives, rather than legislate every detail. A life saved is a life saved.
I’ve proposed making late-term abortions pretty much illegal (impossible to obtain) as a step in that direction, but no, they accuse me of being pro-abortion. I think that step would save many many lives. But that’s not enough for “them”.
We didn’t get into this murderous culture overnight and I don’t think we’ll get out of it overnight. It’s got to be step by step and lots of educating people.
This Sharia-style legislation just isn’t going to cut it, in my humble opinion.
“This Sharia-style legislation just isnt going to cut it, in my humble opinion.”
I think its Sharia style judgement going on here by some.
The country IS dying because the pro-life and pro-family causes are not succeeding completely. Lack of morality directly results in financial disaster. American democracy does not work unless it's based on a moral foundation. Without that, a selfish, narcissistic population will simply vote to loot the treasury and distribute the money to themselves.
The pro-life and pro-family positions are morally correct in the first place because they promote population growth. Without population growth, the country is doomed to be top-heavy-by-age, demographically imbalanced, and in a permanent state of economic decline. If population growth comes solely through immigration that will change the country's character in ways we can't predict. Our country would assimilate to the new population instead of vice versa. And that is unlikely to have good results, since few other countries' citizens are educated with Judeo-Christian and capitalist value systems.
Akin has 2 million dollars for his campaign, McCaskill has over 12 million and now that it looks like she will win, she will really have the money and support pouring in.
Which is why the conservative campaigning and complaining should be directed at the RNC to make them restore his funding. His money deficit is due to their choice.
Hey troll, where has ANYONE suggested that?
If a young girl who is raped and then has an abortion, they would put in jail for life because she has committed murder.
No troll, the pro-life movement OPPOSES the "rape exception" favored by people like you.
I think we might get further in the pro-life movement if we educated people about alternatives, rather than legislate every detail.
The left has been telling us for forty years that they want to limit the number of abortions. More than 53 MILLION INNOCENT AMERICANS HAVE DIED AS THE RESULT OF YOUR METHOD.
Ive proposed making late-term abortions pretty much illegal (impossible to obtain) as a step in that direction, but no, they accuse me of being pro-abortion. I think that step would save many many lives. But thats not enough for them.
Late-term abortion already is illegal. But it still occurs everyday. Again, YOUR APPROACH is to preserve the status quo while pretending to be pro-life.
We didnt get into this murderous culture overnight and I dont think well get out of it overnight. Its got to be step by step and lots of educating people.
Actually we did. On New Year's Day 1973 abortion was effectively illegal throughout almost all of America, one month later it was legal.
The only way to end the holocaust is to end it overnight.
The incremental approach was tried with the pro-choice-on-slavery crowd (a group that mirrored your views exactly) and it nearly destroyed America.
This Sharia-style legislation just isnt going to cut it, in my humble opinion.
I knew it was only a matter of time before you compared conservatives to Islamofascists.
Which is why the conservative campaigning and complaining should be directed at the RNC to make them restore his funding. His money deficit is due to their choice.”
My solution, is for the GOP to announce now who they want to replace Akin with.
That way we could at least then make a knowledgeable decision on whether he should stay or leave.
And Rasmussen today just came out with his first poll of Missouri since the event, and now Obama is up 1. And a Poll yesterday came out showing Akin down 10. Believing this guy will win is denial. Genie can’t go back in the bottle.
If a young girl who is raped and then has an abortion, they would put in jail for life because she has committed murder.
Who? Where?
I think we might get further in the pro-life movement if we educated people about alternatives, rather than legislate every detail.
If we use your sources to educate them they'll remain ignorant.
Ive proposed making late-term abortions pretty much illegal (impossible to obtain) as a step in that direction, but no, they accuse me of being pro-abortion.
Then I suggest you take your argument up with them and stop whining to me about it.
We didnt get into this murderous culture overnight and I dont think well get out of it overnight.
BS! All it takes is passing the right legislation to get us out of this overnight. In one day, signing day, it would be done. Getting to signing day, however, wouldn't be an overnight thing.
Its got to be step by step and lots of educating people.
Again, if we use your sources to educate people they'll remain ignorant.
This Sharia-style legislation just isnt going to cut it, in my humble opinion.
Exactly what legislation are you saying is Sharia-style legislation?
