Statement on Rape and Pregnancy
August 20, 2012
Washington, DC -- Recent remarks by a member of the US House of Representatives suggesting that women who are victims of legitimate rape rarely get pregnant are medically inaccurate, offensive, and dangerous.
Each year in the US, 10,00015,000 abortions occur among women whose pregnancies are a result of reported rape or incest. An unknown number of pregnancies resulting from rape are carried to term. There is absolutely no veracity to the claim that If its a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to shut that whole thing down. A woman who is raped has no control over ovulation, fertilization, or implantation of a fertilized egg (ie, pregnancy). To suggest otherwise contradicts basic biological truths.
Any person forced to submit to sexual intercourse against his or her will is the victim of rape, a heinous crime. There are no varying degrees of rape. To suggest otherwise is inaccurate and insulting and minimizes the serious physical and psychological repercussions for all victims of rape.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (The College), a 501(c)(3) organization, is the nations leading group of physicians providing health care for women. As a private, voluntary, nonprofit membership organization of approximately 56,000 members, The College strongly advocates for quality health care for women, maintains the highest standards of clinical practice and continuing education of its members, promotes patient education, and increases awareness among its members and the public of the changing issues facing womens health care. The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), a 501(c)(6) organization, is its companion organization. www.acog.org
Where ya been? Akin apologized some time ago.
How many of the ACOG’s members provide those “safe, legal, and rare” abortions?
je apologized , but he said what he meant , and he meant what he said a morons a moron 100%.
Besides he set back the Pro-life movement big time by exposing a little know secret of the magic uterus , held by hopefully a tiny fringe element.,

AND COMPLETELY 100% PRO-ABORTION!
How many from rape, how many from incest?
>> Any person forced to submit to sexual intercourse against his or her will is the victim of rape, a heinous crime. There are no varying degrees of rape.
>> “There is no varying degree of rape”.
Well, that’s legally incorrect. But it ironically speaks to the benefit of Akin’s “legitimate rape” term.
Rape is definitively illegal. Statutory rape is illegal.
Illegitimate rape can only mean that falsely claimed. Legitimate rape must mean that truthfully claimed. Rape is indeed rape.
Akin’s was speaking on behalf of Life where rape is not a factor. No other reasonable conclusion can be made from his remarks without speculation.
Your comment makes no sense. I’m 100% pro-life, and I understood exactly what Akin meant even though he did so awkwardly. Are you 100% pro-life? Do you believe a woman should have the right to kill her child conceived by rape or otherwise? It’s the pretenders that aren’t backing Akin.
Seems like a very high number considering the fairly small window when a woman can become pregnant and the women who are draped after they are past their chide bearing years. Perhaps that also includes those get services just in case or get plan B
Even a rabidly pro abortion propagandist like you has to see the absurdity of that argument
So since you’ve posted a study conducted by a pro-abortion activist organization, shall I conclude that you’re in full support of abortion??
Admittedly, Akin could have chosen his words better, but I can see his point as someone who is pro-life without exception. Your rabid attacks of a pro-life conservative is questionable at best & repugnant at worst.
Right on mlizzy!
“but he said what he meant , and he meant what he said”
And that is the crux of the matter. He has offended many women, and they don’t care how many times or in what way he apologizes.
“I understood exactly what Akin meant even though he did so awkwardly”
Make your excuses, he said what he meant and what he believed. It wasn’t misunderstood or taken out of context.
If he was so right, why did he have to apologize?
He has offended many women, and they dont care how many times or in what way he apologizes. The women that are offended are those that have had abortions and CAN'T STAND the thought of someone TALKING, TALKING, TALKING, about it, as their shame (and pain) is DA*N NEAR cutting off their air supply, it is so deep.
Its certainly curious that you posted this 40 minutes ago, have a number of responses, yet you haven’t once responded.
Are you a pro-abort troll or what??
Very well thought out, impressively logical response. You should be proud.
when you have the facts , you argue the facts. when you have the law you argue the law. when you have neither you resort to ad hominems.
Only 14% of gynecologists perform abortions. Thats less than the percent of public support for abortion on demand. I dont think Ron Paul ever performed an abortion.
Facts are a bitch.
