I’m sorry that Akin messed up, but in a way I’m glad. He has brought it into focus how the GOP only gives lip service to social conservatism. This incident has forced the truth to the surface.

He has made me re-evaluate my lukewarm position on abortion in the case of rape. I have given lip service to the idea of prohibiting abortion in the case of rape, but the attack on Akin has caused me to seriously consider the issue and I am now firmly in the "no exceptions" camp on abortion.

Abortion is murder and it cannot be justified merely because the father of the child is a rapist. It is God who gives us life. Who is man to take it away from an innocent child?

Thank you Todd Akin for accidentally drawing so much attention to this issue. You may have screwed up, but God will use it for good. In my life I know he has.

Praise God.

Great post.

Years ago I was willing to go along with the rape exception, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that it was a completely unjustifiable position.

The children of criminals, no matter how they were conceived, are not criminals themselves. We consider barbaric those societies which both today and historically have punished entire families for the crime of one person.

In all the hub-bub going on defending Akin, I confess I did not consider how God might be using this unfortunate situation to educate us all. Yours is an insightful perspective. Thank you for sharing it.
