The commanding officer of a Florida-based warship was removed from the post during an overseas deployment after several female crew members alleged that he sexually harassed women aboard ship, a Navy report shows.
Cmdr. Derick Armstrong was relieved of command in May, about six months after his promotion to the top job aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS The Sullivans. Of the 1,500 commanding officers in the Navy, 22 were removed from the job last year for various reasons.
Armstrong is among a dozen commanding officers removed so far this year.

Each base has tenant commands. There are aircraft squadron, squadrons of ships, a variety of other commands.
Regardless, the overwhelming majority of commanding officers make it through their tours without harassing anyone and without any improper behavior. Why the haste to condemn all of them for the actions of a tiny minority?

As an ex-Navy 1st Class P.O. having spent many cruises aboard ship, I totally agree. The ships Captain may have screwed up.
Close quarters on naval ships are not a good place for females.
Keep in mind. often there are cases of he said, she said and unfortunately for the Captain, if he was a “hard ass”, a woman’s vengance can be a terrible thing to fight off and more so if they gang up.
I have to admit that (seeing as I’m racist and all /s) the fact that he’s black does change things in my opinion. The last thing navy brass wants to see is a reduction in black commanding officers. If he’s guilty there must have been a really long string of incidents for it to get this far. If he’s innocent he must have really stepped on the wrong toes at some point.

A warship is not a place for Title IX sensitivities. You put young women on warships in proximity with men and it should be no surprise that they cause a distraction for the men.
How about fix this by having some ships go to sea with all-female crews?
I think that would be awesome given that doing such a thing would really show if women can do all of the same things that men can if they’re in a situation where there aren’t any men around to help them when they need it.

You are w/o a doubt the biggest women hater on FR.. and I'm not referring to allowing women on ships. Why all the hate on women-you do it on a regular basis in your post. Jeesh.....what's the deal? Really?
I work in an office in close proximity with women - some of them actually attractive - every day. Yet I manage to make it through month after month, year after year without harassing any of them or hopping in the sack with them. Should I have my company fire all the females just to be on the safe side?

George, you sound just like an islamist. They, too, believe woman should be barred from working with men because men can’t be expected to control their sexual urges when woman are around.
We in the west should strive for a higher standard: We should expect professional behavior from our leading professionals, male or female. This officer was, according to all accounts, self-indulgent and unprofessional. He got exactly what he deserved...
