Rasmussen will be releasing a poll this morning showing Akin costing us dearly in Missouri: McCaskill 48% Akin 38%.
Time to pack it up and stop screwing us, big guy.
Maxine Waters represents a single district in CA. The point was about “a statewide race”.
A better example for your viewpoint would be Barbara Boxer. However, there are various definitions of “too stupid to hold office”. She has managed to survive and thrive despite the fact that those like us think she’s dumber than a box of rocks. Clearly she knows how to play the game and work the system, in the state of CA.
I would say that in this situation, with Akin running in an extremely high profile race to take over a Senate seat from the incumbent, he has shown himself to be a very poor communicator and to have very poor judgement about what to say and when to say it.
Some will call that stupid. Others will use different words to describe it.
No matter to me, what it’s called.
I was shocked beyond words when I heard this from Akin. What in the world could he have been thinking, to casually toss off a sentence like that in a public interview? Something is very wrong there. And I say he could do it again at any time, if he could be so clueless that he has caused all of this.
The seat was his.
Now????????????????????????????????????????
I would also like to say, Missourians have more pride than Californians as to who they perceive is worthy to represent them. Claire is a lib, but she’s not so challenged as to pull an Akin. She’s very clever. Yes, people see through her hypocrisy and know she’s an Obama toadie while pretending she’s the voice of the people back home, but she does seem to have her act together otherwise. With Akin, after this, nobody knows what to expect. It’s scary.
It’s not about conservative issues and non conservative issues. It’s about saying something stupid, and not saying something stupid.
That, AND making his idiocy, INSTEAD of the real issues(!), a part of EVERY other national campaign ....
But he has a wonderful voting record. < / sarc
I find it necessary to put the sarc mark in. And that's sad.
IMO-Todd ain't goin' nowhere. And that from a Steelman supporter.
Somewhat disappointed that so many here (even from MO) do not understand the procedure to get his name off the ballot. I've already posted so many times my fingers are sore...
If he so chooses (to remove his name from the ballot) he will ultimately be subject to the whims of SOS Ms. Robin Carnahan. And THAT will not be pretty!
I live in Missouri. DO you? I have patiently waited almost 6 years for the opportunity to replace Claire. God never sends incompetent messengers to do His work... I did not need any other person to tell me the instant I read Akin's words what fire storm he lit.
Here is a lesson for people who hear I am doing the 'LORD's' work and the LORD never sent them.Jesus stopped sending faxes, as gaffes work better instead! :)
Not true...
Regarding replacing Todd Akin if he withdraws - the Republican Central Committee will choose the replacement. That replacement can be someone who lost in the primary. So Steelman or Brunner could still end up as the candidate. Akin would have to withdraw and get a court order by Sept. 25.
Maxine Waters does not hold a STATEWIDE office. I put that word in intentionally.
You can get away with all kinds of strange things at the congressional level, because the way many districts are drawn make them overwhelmingly liberal/Democrat or conservative/GOP. Waters (and Hank Johnson) both represent districts that are so predominantly liberal/Democrat that being “too stupid to hold office” could not swing enough votes to allow a non-Democrat could ever be elected.
A statewide race (like a US senate seat) is a different story. The voters for that office are too evenly split. Aiken was winning—bit time—in prior to his gaffe. He is now at 38% voter support. Those voters didn’t abandon Aiken because they suddenly decided they liked the Democrat better. They abandoned Aiken because they decided Aiken was too stupid to hold office.
I don’t see any scenario—none-where Aiken can get enough of those voters back to get to 50% + 1.
Can we please get some photo-shop help here?
Denial, it isn’t just a River in Egypt.
You’re living in a fantasy world. It’s not just the Senate that’s at stake,it’s the Oval Office too. This could very well cost us Missouri’s electoral votes which,up until a few days ago, were pretty much guaranteed. In spite of what many here think, this oneâs gonna be close...so close that we can’t afford to give up a *single* Electoral vote. The Missouri Senate seat is lost...gone...kaput.Believe otherwise if you wish. Now we must save the White House.Until a few days ago things looked bad for Osama. But every day this clown stays in puts a grin on Osama’s face the likes of which wasn’t even equaled when he was doing all that blow a few years ago.
I have nothing but respect for anybody in Missouri who still support him. I refer to them as legit supporters (but they are certinaly misguided) if they think he can win.
It's too bad because if Romney had lost the election we would have been able to blame the RINOs. But not now.
Do you think I am right about the "hijack theory"?
Rush changed my mind about Akin staying in as an act of defiance against the GOPe; I want Akin to go now because he never had a chance to begin with even before the stupid comments.
Rush said that Akin was always vulnerable because dems crossed over in the primary to vote for him. McCaskill wants him to stay in the race. This has all the markings of a setup. The dems were sure they would defeat this guy on election day but they did not count on his shooting his mouth so fatally before the election.
Now they are hoping he stays in. They should have had their pollsters continue to report that he is up by 1 or 2 points to create false hopes that he can win. This recent poll seems to show that Missourians are not going to elect this guy, so he has got to go now.
Also, if Steelman should be chosen over Brunner? Food fight. Vice versa? Food fight. This entire episode has turned out to be a giant pile of hot, steaming excrement.
Methinks the only way to put this aside is Ann Wagner. Only way to stop the "rape issue." But times 'a wastin'. And Akin still must petition the court and her highness must go along with their decision...
and who would see as his replacement???
Absolutely!
Unfortunately, you are right.
Aug 21 was the deadline for 3rd parties.
Sore loser law prevents anyone who lost in primary mounting a write-in. That would, of course, include Steelman.
If Akin withdraws and gets court order by Sept 25, the Rep. Central Committee could choose GOP replacement. That could be anyone, including those who lost in the primary.
