(CBS/AP) Rep. Todd Akin defied the nation's top Republicans Tuesday and forged ahead with his besieged Senate bid, declaring the party was overreacting to his comments that women's bodies can prevent pregnancies in cases of "legitimate rape" and by insisting he abandon his campaign.
Akin pledged to carry on with his quest to unseat Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri. But his bid faced tall obstacles: a lack of money, a lack of party support and no assurance that his apologies would be enough to heal a self-inflicted political wound.

But, says Andrews, "Two sources tell CBS News Aken's real strategy here is to hang tough -- for now -- and see if that wins enough money and support to stay in the race. In others words-- his final decision to stay in--may not be final."

The Democrats have had candidates who were convicted of having sex with a minor and did not withdraw from the race.
A pro-abortion, pro-homosexual agenda, libertarian? Akin isn’t even as whacky as them.
I’m not the Republic establishment or a conservative pundit. I’m just a regular guy with a basic understanding of electoral politics who wants conservatives to win. And I’m telling you, anyone who supports a jackass like Akin staying in the race, is either deluded or a liberal saboteur.
On Greta last night, Sarah Palin talked about a third-party run for Silver-whoever, the runner-up whom she backed in the primary.
Seemed serious about it.
If Akin can’t win, he needs to bow out. Taking this Senate seat from McCaskill is crucial to control of the Senate, repealing Obamacare, ratifying SCOTUS appointments, etc.
Democrats can't give him enough money in a Presidential election year
It comes down to Akin going to court and facing a 4 Dem/ 2 Pubbies panel if he decides to bug out. This guy is here to stay.
Second, you need to learn how to win. The Dems figured this out 30 years ago: whatever it takes.
Third, his view is OFFENSIVE. It isn't just that he thinks there is a "legitimate" rape---that's not the big deal. The big deal is that his moronic view that a woman can "will away" a fetus (any more than she can a cancer) is offensive and what it really says, if you follow it to its conclusion, is that he doesn't think rape is that big a deal. Heck, if there are no lasting consequences of a child, it can't be too important.
No, he's a neanderthal who probably will cost us Missouri, could cost us the Senate, and remotely could tip Missouri for Zero, which would possibly re-elect him.
He should have been gone two days ago.
Good one.
I wonder how soon before we start seeing the flip chart commercials?
And part of that elite is Claire McCaskill and her PAC running ads in favor of Akin and against his opponents during the primary.....this guy has benefitted from dimocratic largesse and is too stupid to know it
Not yet.
McCaskil (sp) is soo vulnerable that someone getting in late can still beat her.
I think that dead line has passed. Going from memory I think it was the RNC head that was speaking with Mark Levin in the last hour of last nights show. He would have to go to the MO supreme court and ask that he be removed from the ballet at this point. Problem is, the Dems out number the Pubs on the court so it’s not likely his request would be granted.
Seriously, thanx for posting. Reminds people here to keep their eyes on the prize!
I just donated $50, to do my part even if its not my state.
The Soro’s of the world pumped him up and now want to starve him, so real conservatives need to step up and see Akin through.
That’s a shame. At least the rest of the Senate races are looking to be shaping up, so maybe we can pull 51 without MO.
It is understood by all that any six term congressman of either party is inherently stupid and is part of the problem not part of the solution.
That said it only takes ONE WORD to bring attention to just how stupid most of the lifetime in office crowd like Akin actually is as Akin has not had a real job since 1988.
There is no DEFENSE for the stupidity of professional political hacks like Akin and it is humorous to see those on this forum defend Akin as if Akin is important and worth defending.
Exactly right.
