My opinion of what he was trying to say as follows:
“Legitimate rape” = “Someone forcibly having intercourse with an unwilling participant”.
“Illegitimate rape” - Some bimbo laying down, spreading her legs and having consensual relations with someone, gets pregnant and then CLAIMS rape in order to have an abortion.
If that’s what he meant and that is what he was trying to convey then he should explain it.
Yes, he tried to explain it, to Hannity, and still came off sounding like a moron.
Also, please try and explain the second part of his comment.

Because that is one of the most idiotic things I’ve heard in my entire life and I’m someone who works in the medical field.

Trying to explain is now irrelevant. He just made the Republican party the official anti-science, pro-rape party in this country and the only way for him to stop it was by stepping down.
Now every Republican candidate IN THE COUNTRY has the pleasure of answering “what do you think rape is?” and “do agree with your colleague and fellow like-minded Republican Mr. Akin on female physiology?”
Apparently Akin has more Courage and Honor than the entire GOP. Fight On Akin Fight On.
