A M.Div. is a substantial degree...about a 70+ hour graduate degree. It’s hard to say there isn’t much education in his background. Blame Akin’s nonsense on something else.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life, it is that education and actual intelligence are not co-dependent on each other. I’ve met some absolutely brilliant people who had no more than a high-school diploma. On the other hand some of the biggest, most helpless fools I’ve known were extremely well educated. As a point of reference, go visit any college campus today and you’ll find multiple tenured professor’s that thrive in their shielded environments but would flail about helplessly in the real world.
70+ hours of coursework on the writings of Paul, the authorship of revelations, etc,, do not equate in any way to a hard education relating to the temporal world.
IE,,not many masters of divintity get hired by BP and the Hadron supercollider project. Just saying. So in a sense, he is a highly trained minister. He is certainly devoid of the trait known as “common sense”.
