Condoleezza Rice, Colleen Curran and Condi's now famous golf ball.
On the 14th hole of the round at Warren Golf Course, Colleen was standing just off the tee of the par-three, 149-yard hole when one of the others in the threesome got off a nice shot that glided down the fairway, hit turf, bounced a few times, rolled a little more ... and went straight into the cup, for a hole-in-one - an oc-currence most golfers never see in a lifetime.
They jumped up and down. They hugged. OK, now you've got one tremendously fun day, don't you? Hang on - we haven't even gotten to the punch line yet. Colleen's golfing partner who hit the ace, the very first one of her life, was ... Condoleezza Rice, perhaps best known to the world (OK, at least before this) as United States Secretary of State in the George W. Bush White House. "It was all just unbelievable!" says Colleen.
Yes, scratch "just a good day."
Colleen Curran had a day of her life ... and she hadn't even gotten to the darned football game yet.
Rice - or "Dr. Rice," as she is known in education circles - has her master's degree from Notre Dame, and was on campus for a speaking engagement. She is such a voracious weekend golfer ("She has a passion for athletics, some-thing I hadn't known," says Colleen, "It's from her dad."); Rice asked if she could squeeze in a quick round while there. That's how Colleen got in-volved.
Sept of 2011 - hole in one for Condi.
