One of them is a close relatives of a fellow I worked with at USPS. Cynthia McKinney's grandfather! So her Great Grandpa would be that close to the big man. Saw her as a baby once.
This was back before Roosevelt figured out how to get a lock on the black vote. There were plenty of big city blacks in Eastern cities voting for Democrats, but Republicans could depend on most of the bloc. Then came the war and everything changed.
