By that standard he should have known better.
To me, it is a symptom of some in the party wanting to push the social agenda instead of the fiscal agenda. If the fiscal agenda is the tent pole, and the only message, the GOP ticket will win overall. The country is willing to support the fiscal debate, they are not interested in the social argument this cycle.
Now, if the GOP Is able to gain control, affect a turn-around, then they would be in a much stronger position to roll-out the social reform debate. But the CFL dust up is leading some candidates to mis-read the electorates appetite to listen to the social debate. IMHO, now is not the time.
He was merely answering a query. I can’t see wrong in doing that. Could he have answered it a bit more gently? Probably....but this sudden rush to boot him over 38 seconds of video shows a lack of fortitude.

Our side shows great weakness when it allows the media to disqualify our nominees...especially over off-the-cuff sound bites.
