Let's go to the video...@Todd Akin on Rape and Abortion, The Jaco Report, 8/19/2012

@Todd Akin, GOP Senate candidate: ‘Legitimate rape’ rarely causes pregnancy
“First of all, from what I understand from doctors, (pregnancy from rape) is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in a clip posted to YouTube by the Democratic super PAC American Bridge. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Poor choice of words which well may hound him to defeat!

Miscarriage and abortions are much much higher with rape. Pregnancy though, still happens if the girl had ovulated - its just less likely to go to term.

Rape of males (as with Sandusky or Dahmer) seldom results in pregnancy.

Rape of premenarche girls seldom results in pregnancy.

Rape of post menopausal females seldom results in pregnancy.

Anal rape seldom results in pregnancy.

Oral rape seldom results in pregnancy.

Women with hysterectomies or full tubal ligations don't tend to get pregnant from rape.

If you compile the statistics lumping all victims of rape together rather than strictly healthy women of child bearing age experiencing penile vaginal rape...then yes, you can artificially create the perception that rape is less likely to produce a pregnancy than other intercourse.

It will be a lie, of course, but you can interject it and hope nobody calls you on it.

I can find a doctor who will tell you that whatever herbal concoction I want them to endorse causes men to grow bigger genitals and women to grow larger busts. If you don't look at the underlying methodology well...

Knowing WHEN to stop talking is important in politics. Instead of “running off at the mouth” he might best only have made his first comment - what doctors say about the incidence of pregnancy resulting from rape - and left it at that. That might have prevented any great excitement about his comment.

I don't even know what to say. I would have a hard time voting for somebody this stupid. If Clayton Williams was handing out awards for blowing a political campaign with an idiotic comment about rape, Akin would be first in line.
