The cop should have understood the level of distraughtness in the father. You’d think someone on the force for that long would know that.

Simply identifying himself as a cop doesn’t give him a pass from anything.

Cops are not special, even though they and the contingent of JBT-loving boot-lickers here on FR think they are.

Let ‘em eat donuts.

No, it doesn’t give him a pass, but he’s still a human being who had a right to defend himself from an angry, out of control young man who for all he knew was going to beat him to death whilst he was lying helplessly on the ground with a broken leg and shoulder...

Understanding had nothing to do with it.

Regardless of his status as a LEO his leg and shoulder were broken and he was defenseless against two adult males stomping him to death.

Anyone would have been justified in using lethal force at that point. The fact that they knew and didn’t care that he was an LEO is just the icing on the cake.

Did you read the article?

Maybe he did know that, but saw something else.

Let's see, a kid appears from between cars outside of a "restaurant" (I guess they served chips with their beer.) The cop ditches the bike, breaks bones to avoid the collision.

"Victim" , hearing the crash, looks out and sees his child , his very own who he was supposed to be minding, hurt. He's so distraught he flies out the door to the man on the ground with the apparent intention of kicking him to death.

He only wanted justice for his injured daughter, I guess, figuring somebody else would call the ambulance.

The guy on the ground had a gun. Whoops.

Please don’t forget, some of us FReepers were (or still are) cops.

The way some of you paint with such a wide brush is sickening...

BTW, I’ve always hated donuts (and fast food)...

He was injured and the father was punching him. Both men over-reacted.

Simply identifying himself as a cop doesn’t give him a pass from anything.

It should have been enough to stop the distraught father from beating an injured man. By refusing to stop, the man, had he not been killed, would have been subject to an additional criminal charge of assaulting an officer. Being distraught doesn't give you a pass to beat anyone, especially a cop.

Cops are not special, even though they and the contingent of JBT-loving boot-lickers here on FR think they are. Let ‘em eat donuts.

Your obvious hostility toward cops makes your argument a lot less persuasive. Put your animosity against the police aside for a moment and think about what happened. A 4-year-old runs into the road, as unsupervised little kids will do and the cop on his motorcycle lays it down in a desperate attempt to avoid hitting the child. He injures himself but goes to help the child. The father runs out of wherever he was and starts yelling and punching the cop. The cops tries to get him to back off by telling the father that he's a cop - to no avail. The cop then pulls out his gun and apparently this didn't faze the punching dad so the cop shoots the man and he dies. Tragic.

The child was apparently unsupervised, after being told he was a cop the father continued assaulting an officer, who was already injured from trying not to hit the child that ran in front of him and the cop used his gun to shoot - and kill - the father who was beating him. Yet it's the cops fault? Unless it can be shown that the cop was drunk or speeding or otherwise broke the law, I think not.

What, no reply?!

What are you.. a Libertarian?!

I DO expect a reply to your disrespect towards police (and FReepers)..

I will say that there is a difference between UNION police and real Police... I will also say there is a BIG difference between city and county.. Also.. BIG difference between states..

I was a Deputy in a County in Texas... and that is a BIG... say again ... BIG difference between any union/city/state police from anywhere else in the USA.. notice, I didn’t PING anyone else..

You want to insult me... please give me your job description.. location...so I can claim the same abuse against people and families that you did to me (and many other FReepers).

BTW, in Texas, the deputies are the people you trust to take care of bad situations.... (AND.. NONE of us are UNION)...

sorry, still pissed off..

The child wasn’t dead, but instead of attending to her, the father chose to attack the cop.
