Before anyone wastes any time posting that the US should suspend the several billion dollar a year payments the US makes to Egypt as part of the Camp David accords, be aware Obama beat you to the punch and over ruled the State Dept decision to withhold the payments until the Muslim Brotherhood agreed to fully abide by the treaty and forced the State Dept to pay the billions directly to the Muslim Brotherhood

It is not an accord or agreement if one of the parties can change the terms at will.

Oh nooo Lera, don't boot out the reporters, instead: be sure to inform them that a major news story is about to break at the foot of the Aswan Dam, say about 30 minutes before the IAF bombs it out of existence. Let the reporters join the ancient Egyptian Army in a watery grave. :)

What needs to made clear is that there are most likely only three scenarios ahead on this issue:

a) Morsi will try to negotiate with Israel to make changes to the treaty with Israel, and when they fail to satisfy Morsi’s demands for unrestricted military operations in Sinai, which they will because a demilitarized Sinai cannot be negotiated away without endangering Israel’s security, then Morsi will blame Israel and break the treaty, or

b) Morsi is not going to negotiate with Israel to try to change to the treaty - and a treaty it is, and therefor he thinks treaties don’t matter, and thinks he can then do what he wants, or

c) either a) or b) and Morsi intends to instigate an armed conflict with Israel, because he expects that:

(1) win (doubtful) or

(2) lose - likely, but

also likely ending with a broken treaty, Israel “occupying” Sinai, and a mere armistice at the new status quo, and therefor either way:

(3) Morsi will be a national hero, just for taking on Israel; the Islamist hatred of Jews will have Egyptian nationalism and public sentiment fully behind it; and “because of Israeli aggression” (Morsi’s self-created excuse) Egypt will rearm, to “free Palestine and Jerusalem”, and again with the Egyptian public behind it.

Or maybe that isn’t the kind of booming that will dominate.
