Ya, and remember, Obama personally went to Copenhagen to lobby for Chicago to get the Olympics.
I remember Oprah was on that trip, and said that Obama was the captain of their team.
Michelle Obama at the time, said that their strategy in Copenhagen would be “take no prisoners”.
But, alas, it didn’t work out as planned.................
Yep, and that is what may have “turned off” the IOC folks BIGTIME.
When a city wants to get an olympic sport events, and this is my guess, I think it is the Mayor of the city in question and that country’s olympic commitee. Plus what also helps is a legendary sports figure or two from the country in question. Pele, though long out of the sport of soccer, is still legendary and beloved.
This just came to my mind, also the IOC, having delt with “politics” for so long, wanted to get away from it as fast as possible and wanted nothing to do with an olympic bid that would be “dripping” with politcs.
