“I reject her philosophy,” Ryan says firmly. “It’s an atheist philosophy. It reduces human interactions down to mere contracts and it is antithetical to my worldview. If somebody is going to try to paste a person’s view on epistemology to me, then give me Thomas Aquinas,” who believed that man needs divine help in the pursuit of knowledge. “Don’t give me Ayn Rand,” he says.

Bravo!

After reading the impressive list of Ryan votes.... we must not forget the long list of decisive votes Obama made in his Senate ‘days’...

“Present”

That is all.

I agree, Pietro. Paul Ryan hits the nail on the head.

I do believe that Ayn Rand's observations and critiques were spot on, and have helped many readers understand how we are marching toward dictatorship and slavery. Rand's earlier experience in Russia showed her the dark side of human nature, and allowed her to see where unchecked human nature would inevitably lead.

The problem with Ayn Rand comes with her solutions, which are atheistic and utopian in their own right. Her rejection of God and her belief that man can be perfected under the right circumstances is an untenable basis for the free society that she espoused.

To twist a quote from The Hunt for Red October, Paul Ryan has said "I know this book, Rand. But your conclusions were all wrong!"
