U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan will be on the ballot twice Nov. 6 now that he has been picked by Republican Mitt Romney as his running mate. Ryan will remain on the ballot for re-election to his seat in the House of Representatives, said Susan Jacobson, finance director/campaign manager for his House campaign. Ryan represents the 1st Congressional district that includes Janesville, Kenosha and much of southeastern Wisconsin, including portions of Waukesha and Milwaukee counties. He has been won election to the seat seven times. Ryan (R-Janesville) could run both for vice president and for re-election to Congress thanks to a 1968 law that permits a candidate to be on the ballot twice, but only if he or she is running for president or vice president. Ryan faces Democrat Rob Zerban of Kenosha in November. Zerban has raised $1.2 million in his race. Ryan has raised $4.3 million as of July 25, according to the Federal Election Commission. Zerban is a former small businessman who sold his last business in 2008.

Good news — Ryan stays on ballot in 1st District

The Democrats can’t say anything about this, because LBJ in 1960 ran for both VP and re-election to the Senate. And in 2000, Joe Lieberman ran for both VP and re-election to the Senate.
So if any Democrats say Ryan can’t or shouldn’t do this, let’s have the facts that good Democrats do the same thing, when they are picked to run for Vice-President.
That’s a pretty normal course of action but someone always has to try to make it an issue (when it isn’t).

Better yet, in 2008 Biden ran for both VP and his Delaware senate seat and no conservatives questioned Biden’s running for both seats.
Since Democrat VP nominees have run for Vice President and the Senate in the same year before, if the liberals are intellectually honest, they can’t criticize Ryan for running for re-election to the House and for VP at the same time.
Thanks for the update. Didn’t realize Biden ran for both as well. Well, there you have it. If the Dems. make this an issue, there’s plenty of ammunition to fire back, that good Democrats do the same thing when nominated for Vice-President.

I wonder why the Journal omitted Walworth County as part of Ryan’s district and one of the most conservative counties in the state. Gov, Walker is from this county, and Ryan grew up in the next county. We’re very proud of that part of the state.

However, I seem to recall that in 2008 that Christine O’Donnell who was running against Biden for the Senate seat demanded that Biden withdraw from the Senate race.

I am all for him running for his seat again. However, once they are a President or Vice President nominee, I think their paycheck should stop until they work again. Campaigning should not be a paid job. He is going to get a free paycheck from now until November guaranteed. Who gets that kind of free ride.
Though it would seem if he really believed in Romney, he’d commit himself to that goal. Here he sets himself a backstop. Even though he can do it by law, it seems a bit disingenuous to me.
The rules need to be changed, you want to be VP (or anything else for that matter) you SHOULD BE MADE TO CHOOSE.
This tells me he's not confident he actually is going to be VP.
The first of many, I'm sure disappointments, because I'd bet big money he's going to cruise to victory.
