Mitt Romney told a top aide that he had selected Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate on Aug. 1, sources tell Fox News.
The Republican presidential candidate notified Beth Myers, who was running his VP search, and called up Ryan that day to set up a meeting.
It's unclear when exactly Romney made the formal offer to Ryan.
The campaign did not confirm the selection publicly until Saturday morning.
Romney is formally announcing his decision at a campaign stop in Virginia.

No leaks? Hmmmm, I like it.
Rather Amazing and a good sign of Executive Control....very GOOD!
A pic of Ryan on Drudge, he looks almost like a young Renaldo Magnus.
The announcement backdrop of the BB Wisconsin was pretty neat too...
Good, Romney’s team has discipline and can keep a secret.
Typical of the media to immediately jump into the “behind the scenes” machinations instead of educating people on what Ryan believes in.

Mitt did good. A really smart choice.
Right now according to several pundits referring to any VP pick, Romney can only expect a one or two point bounce in the polls.
I’ll bet its more. The pick of Ryan as a running mate is more than a gesture to any single group. Its a message to America that says, “Hey, these guys are serious about fixing things.”
Now the Romney machine can begin outlining their specific plans to restore our country. Game on.
Next week should be very interesting with O’s minions in full fledged personal attack mode.
