Now that the question is settled as to the Veep selection, it’s a good time to see what we’re getting for our election dollar. (And don’t forget, America’s Comeback Team is still accepting donations for the battle to come.) A couple of items to digest this weekend follow. First, a few excerpts from Ryan’s comments during the announcement.
For the last 14 years, I have proudly represented Wisconsin in Congress. There, I have focused on solving the problems that confront our country, and turning ideas into action; and action into solutions.
I am committed, in mind and heart, to putting that experience to work in a Romney Administration. This is a crucial moment in the life of our nation; and it is absolutely vital that we select the right man to lead America back to prosperity and greatness.
That man is standing next to me. His name is Mitt Romney. And he will be the next president of the United States
Let me say a word about the man Mitt Romney will replace. No one disputes President Obama inherited a difficult situation. And, in his first 2 years, with his party in complete control of Washington, he passed nearly every item on his agenda. But that didn’t make things better.
In fact, we find ourselves in a nation facing debt, doubt and despair.
This is the worst economic recovery in 70 years.
Unemployment has been above 8 percent for more than three years, the longest run since the Great Depression. Families are hurting.
We have the largest deficits and the biggest federal government since WW II.
Nearly 1 out of 6 Americans are in poverty–the worst rate in a generation. Moms and dads are struggling to make ends meet.
Household incomes have dropped by more than $4,000 over the past four years.
Whatever the explanations, whatever the excuses, this is a record of failure.
Next, let’s jump into the time machine and revisit a couple of Ryan’s greatest hits in video form. First up, a speech he gave to Heritage last year.

I suppose the first question I have there is whether this is going to work with the American public. Poll after poll has been telling us for the better part of the year that the number one issue in November is going to be the economy and jobs. The latest round of economic statistics suggests that the importance of these issues in the minds of voters are going to be even more important in the minds of voters. If the Romney/Ryan ticket begins to shift the focus of its message from the economy to the fiscal situation in Washington, though, are voters going to see the connection between those long-term issues and the short-term issue of the state of the economy and where the jobs are going to come from?

I’m no fan of Romney, but Picking Ryan was an excellent choice for five reasons:
1. It shows us that Romney understands the economic Armageddon we are approaching and that serious economic reform is needed to avoid that cliff.
2. It shows that he was paying attention to Ryan’s legislative suggestions over the past years, sound and good suggestions that are bold and in the right direction — suggestions largely ignored by the Democrats and the establishment
3. It shows he’s paying attention to the conservative base.
4. He could have chosen a “token” VP running mate simply to appeal to some special, minority class of voters (a woman, a racial or ethnic minority, etc.). Instead, he picked a “white male,” which many in the government-media industrial complex will attack as being anti-woman, anti-minority. This tells us that Romney wants to put together a team that will fix the problems, not one that will have only popular appeal. It also tells the conservative base he’s not going to play those “I’m PC and hip” games. This also shows us that he is confident in winning this race without having to play those cheap political games.
5. Ryan is an excellent voice for going after the left on ideological grounds and destroying their arguments. Romney’s pick of Ryan tells us that he’s not going to play the “kid glove” games that McCain and the rest of the establishment have been playing with Obammie the Commie.
All in all, a very good pick by Romney and I give him credit.
As I’ve stated over the past years, though, I don’t think financial Armageddon can be avoided at this point and that we are facing a global depression that will make the 1930’s look like the Roarin’ 20’s. My fear is that the collapse will occur (or will be made to occur) when the Oval Office is occupied by those the socialists/fascists/communists can call “free-marketers” or “Capitalists” and that they will blame the collapse on Capitalism and a free-market economy, shifting blame from where it belongs: the Statists and their socialist/communist/fascist economic policies.

I think Ryan was his best possible choice.
Now I wonder whether we’ll see the sharks come out on the Dem side. Not just trashing Ryan—that’s a given—but how about replacing Biden with Hillary? Biden is more like Goofy than a real attack dog, and they will think that pulling Hillary off the bench will emphasize Ryan’s supposed lack of foreign policy cred.

Hillary is on a party tour right now. I don't think she'd want it to end prematurely.
I agree, there was no perfect choice, but Romney is signaling that he is willing to sacrifice glitz and popular appeal for competence and quality in order to turn the economy around.
They’d be shooting themselves in the foot to replace their VP at this point. They’d have to take him out LBJ style to have any “hope” of making it work.
I don't know. Closer to the election the better. Hillary has absurdly high positives that would disappear after more than a couple months of the campaign. (LBJ-style? Really? That is cold.)

If they just pushed Biden aside, they’d have to admit that he was a mistake to begin with.
Our argument would/should be, if we can’t trust them to pick one VP, can we trust them to pick their presidential candidate? Should we trust their new VP pick?
Also, don’t forget that Biden has proved in the past that if they try to push him overboard, he will do what he needs to to sabotage them. Some of those ‘gaffes’ were not gaffes, but his tipping his hand that he has no problem calling out Obammie the Commie on those policies that he knows the American middle class does not support.
That’s why I expect Biden to come down with a sudden case of “The Kremlin Flu.”

Obama will play up the race card, but nobody got a job from a politician playing up racial divisions.
