"The SPLC letter demanded the museum rescind the unlawful policy or face a federal lawsuit. " ______________________
That's it, with the help of the SPLC which designates any and all dissenters as "hate groups", just push your way in - to hell with state officials , the public, or anything else that gets in your way. Grrrr.

I can understand where you are coming from but this is a public building supported by tax dollars and the last time I checked gay people do pay taxes. If they don't want them there then don't take their tax dollars.

Interesting that you say that, and point well taken.
I am unclear whether gay marriage/civil unions are legal in the state of Mississippi. The official in his reply said:
Based on my personal and religious beliefs, I strongly object to this, but I have no alternative, due to this advice, but to allow the processing of this permit to move forward, wrote Hyde-Smith.
However, if finalized, I will immediately begin working with other elected officials and the entire legislature to request clear and straightforward definitions about what activities can take place on the property owned by the State of Mississippi, she added, I am hopeful that this matter can be put forth immediately when the Legislature convenes in January.

If they don't want them there then don't take their tax dollars. That would be a small price to pay. There are a lot -- a lot -- fewer of them than it would seem.

Addendum: Mississippi currently does not legally define either civil unions or domestic partnerships. So to hold one in a public building is dubious.

Then by your logic, that museum should welcome the Klan or the Nazi Party or the local NAMBLA chapter - after all, I’m sure that they pay taxes.

Yes that is true I may not like it or you may not like it but under the equal protection clause they can not discriminate against anyone person or group.

Assuming you are male, your wedding was legally recognized bu the state. I believe the officials’ complaint is that the state of Miss. does not legally recognize same sex unions.
To: guitarplayer1953
Not a question of “not wanting them there,” as you certainly know. It’s a question of not wanting an ILLEGAL ceremony to take place under state auspices.
