Romney: We're Not Getting Personal
Rush Limbaugh.com ^ | August 10, 2012 | Rush Limbaugh

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, here's Romney. This was this morning on NBC News. F. Chuck Todd was talking to Romney, and F. Chuck said, "Do you have a feeling that this campaign has turned into a race to the bottom?" Because your ad -- your ad, Mr. Romney -- it's the lowest of the low and even the New York Times says so!

Do you feel we're racing to the bottom here?

ROMNEY: Our campaign would be helped immensely if we had an agreement between both campaigns that we were only going to talk about issues, and that attacks based upon business or family or taxes or things of that nature, that this is just a diversion. Our ads haven't gone after the president personally. Our ads talk about his record as president and failure of his policies to create jobs, but we haven't dredged up the old stuff that people talked about last time. We haven't gone after the personal things.

RUSH: Hmmm.

So is Romney asking for credit for that, or is he on the defensive? (paraphrased exchange) F. Chuck says, "Is your campaign going to the bottom?" and Romney says, "No, no, we're not going to the bottom. We need a truce. We need a truce." Now, some people... I should say Mr. Snerdley is going nuts in there. I have heard some people think that if you read between the lines there, that there's a threat from Romney, maybe a preview of what's coming.

We haven't done it, quote, "yet." We haven't gotten personal "yet." We haven't dredged up that old stuff that people talked about last time around "yet," like Jeremiah Wright and like Bill Ayers. We haven't done that "yet." Some people say that's what they hear in this ad. Others are saying, "No, no, it's not that. That's wishful thinking. If that's what you think you're hearing, it's wishful thinking." What Romney is asking is for Obama to stop the negative stuff.

And, of course, if that's the case, that's laughable, it isn't going to happen. And, again, people are saying: "You didn't have any problem going personal with Newt. You didn't have any problems going personal with Santorum. You didn't have any problem with going personal with Bachmann. What is it with Obama? Why in the world do we not pull the trigger against Obama? What is everybody afraid of?" We all know the answer: Race.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: We've got a new Romney ad, by the way. It's number 26. It's Romney slamming the Obama PAC ad. This is, I guess, Romney firing back at the ad in which Romney's accused of committing murder.

ANNOUNCER: What does it say about a president's character when his campaign tries to use the tragedy of a woman's death for political gain?

RUSH: Never mind. Hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it. Stop the tape. Stop the tape. It doesn't do any good to play this, because it's full of graphics after the first question. They quote various newspapers.

"Scraping bottom," Chicago Tribune.

"Disgusting," ABC News.

ABC News, "Obama campaign knowing" lying about it.

"Unfair attacks," CBS News.

So what Romney has done here in this ad is collected a bunch of network and newspaper printed-word editorials. They ask these questions, and they use the graphic excerpts of the editorials in the ad. And, of course, it ends with "I'm Mitt Romney and I approve this message." So that's their fight-back: Quoting the media on their reaction to Obama's PAC ad accusing Romney of committing murder.

IF it is “race” that is holding back Romney, it is probably because Mormons have a terrible history on the issue of “dark skin” in their closet. IF Obama starts going after Romney’s Mormonism....Romney is going to go down hard and hurt the Salt Lake City mafia as well. Mormons don’t want their “real” history explored. The “mormon connection” may well be what has Romney being so timid.

I think that the public is getting a very clear view of both Obama and Romney and most people don't like either of them. If you're like most people, you should check out Tom Hoefling.

If you vote for Tom, you'll be proud of your vote and you won't be ashamed to tell people about it.

I will crawl over broken glass to vote against Obama. But Romney is a loser. He is basically McCain 2.0, yet worse sans Palin.

President Bush 'rose above' the criticism of him even though they were lies and more lies. He did not respond and now half of all Americans believe the sh^t that was said about him. Now we have about 8 weeks to correct the views Mr. Obama is cultivating among his devotees and 'independents'. Two of those weeks will be the pre-Democrat convention and two weeks will be post-Democrat convention. He will continue to define Mitt. All Romney does is respond to these characterizaitons. Romney needs to cram a turd sandwich down Husseins throat every day. I detest Clinton. But he was a crafty bastard. He and Stephanopolis developed a 'rapid-response' team who responded to any criticism within 1 hour of any political criticism of him. It worked.

We on the right seem to be too civilized to get into the mud with Obama and his demons. Romney starts a four day bus tour. Lets get the confetti. Romney shoots a pea shooter and Obama uses LAWS rockets. We're gonna lose if Romney does not wake up and get vicious.

Harry Reid is a devout Mormon too. He will surely come out strong against any bad things Barrack says about Mormons, won't he?

No, that would be false.

In 0bama's first year after a vote for this nobody, you'll have rocks thru your windows. You will be in part responsible for another four 0bama years. You will not be proud of what you did to this country - you will in fact be ashamed.

Juan McPain AND George Bush, now Willard

All far too patrician and chivalrous to stoop to the level of the street rat who has won all his races by sliming the competition

Willard is indeed Juan PcPain without Sarah Palin, so cannot blame his loss on Sarah

I’m sure Rush’s ad would have been Romney calling Obama a c*cksucker, and the guy from the ad a lying little bitch motherf*cker whose wife got what she deserved?

What is it that Romney is supposed to present in order to with the Badass of the Airwaves Award for Kick-Ass Ads?

“Fight back! Just dont ask me to define that. I just want to say it as it makes me feel like I know more.”

Everyone critiques, no one produces.

Again, lots of cliches about “getting tough” not a clue what that remotely means.

Make up stuff?

Call him names?

Give us this vaulted example of what the perfect ad would be and how it should go, so we can understand what “vicious” involves.

Principled, I’ll tell you what, 10,000 bucks? Ten thousand dollar bet?

I will be proud of my vote for Tom. I encourage you to check out the America's Party website before you waste your vote on Obama or Romney. You still have plenty of time to do the right thing.

Neither you nor I can save Romney's disastrous campaign.

I know you are being sarcastic, but I doubt he would. It is interesting to note that I think Reid, a democrat, is more pro-life than Romney.

I certainly will, because I’m voting third party for the first time in my life rather than vote for Romney as the GOP candidate. From what I have gleened thus far, I only have one area of disagreement with the “American Party” and that would be I do not think the 17th Ammendment should be repealed. Also, although I don’t like paying income tax, I seriously doubt the 16th will ever be repealed. Neither of those are “gamestoppers” on my voting with that party though.
