When an American settles overseas and relinquishes US citizenship, the US government no longer bears any responsibility for them. With India its different. Indian government very often actively intervenes for the safety of her large diaspora expat population settled overseas. US may not like it but that wont stop India from voicing concerns.
I don’t have a problem with India being outraged, but in the case the individuals are American citizens, the argument that the US govt is not obliged to apologize is correct.
I’m doubtful the opposition to the apology/reconciliation is directed towards the Sihks. Likely the frustration is a factor of contempt for the “Hate America” crowd that often speaks ill of the United States.
The massacre was horrific. And I’d extend that same sentiment to any group. The action was definitively unconstitutional, depraved, and cowardly.
