The Chinese Foreign Ministry's over the weekend condemned a U.S. State Department statement that said Washington was closely monitoring territorial disputes in the South China Sea, and that China's establishment of a military garrison for the area risks "further escalating tensions in the region".
The mosaic of rival territorial claims in the South China Sea has become Asia's worst potential military flashpoint.
Beijing has said its disputes with Vietnam, the Philippines and other southeast Asian claimants should be settled one-on-one, and it has bristled at U.S. backing for a multilateral approach to solving the overlapping claims.
"We are entirely entitled to shout at the United States, 'Shut up'. How can meddling by other countries be tolerated in matters that are within the scope of Chinese sovereignty?," said a commentary in the overseas edition of the People's Daily, an offshoot of the ruling Chinese Communist Party's top newspaper.
The main, domestic edition of the newspaper was equally harsh, and accused Washington of seeking to open up divisions between China and its Asian neighbours.
.....Last week, the People's Daily said China's "core interests" were at stake in its territorial claims across the South China Sea language that puts such claims on a similar footing with China's claims of indisputable sovereignty over Tibet and Xinjiang in its west....

They are correct.
They own us.
We can’t tell them what to do.
They are our masters.
And we let them become our masters.
I agree, they are correct.
But I disagree they are our masters.
The United States has, for too long, acted like the policeman of the world.
In this instance the nations involved will have to settle their differences without our intervening.
Even after Obama weakened our economy and our military, even after Obama apologized for everything America has ever done and said our country is not special or exceptional, and even after Obama displayed appalling hostility toward friendly countries and weakness in dealing with unfriendly countries, China still doesn’t like us or respect us. How unexpected!
Or they “claim to” say they own us.
Unfortunately, that area of the world has tremendous strategic, national-security, and economic significance to the US, as an enormous amount of ship traffic passes through there on its way to the Straits of Malacca off Singapore. If China controls that whole region, they’ll have the world economy by the neck (more than they already do).
Obama has successfully “leveled the playing field” (or more) in almost every aspect and corner of U.S. economic and national security areas.
Our enemies endorse his re-election.
I wish it were so. We’re a debt junkie nation standing up to our dealer.
The politicians we all voted in to office put us in this position.
The Chinese are speaking to governments throughout the world and telling them that America is weak. The Chinese say the governments must choose between the United States and China. America has few allies left in the world and if Obama is reelected America will have none.
The Obama Administration is turning the greatest country in the history of the world into a weak, corrupt, bankrupt dictatorship.
Quite a departure from the usual.
Oriental cultures are stereotypically deferential, and the ChiComs were obfuscatory to boot.
To come right out this directly and authoritatively has quite a sobering subtext.
Barry has to play both side of the fence with this deal. he has to look like he has a backbone to the American public and he also has to let the Chicoms do whatever they want. We know who’s side he’s on.
“Unfortunately, that area of the world has tremendous strategic, national-security, and economic significance to the US,..”
We’ll have to find another way to Singapore, I guess!
OK, so I’m being flippant. But what part of we, the U.S.A. is bankrupt, do you not understand? It takes great wealth to project a global military presence. We no longer have that wealth.
And how much commercial shipping travels via U.S. merchantmen, anyway? Damn little, if I remember right.
It isn’t a matter of “if” China controls what is essentially it’s own front yard. They already do control that area. They’re the Big Dog in that part of the world. Australia should be worried, not us!
Americans are just having a difficult time realizing that we no longer are “The Big Dog”.
I think the Chinese are unhappy with having to deal with Hillary Clinton - they do not trust her, nor do they respect her.
If you owe me $10,000 then I have a problem.
If I owe you $1,000,000,000,000 then you have a problem.
Heads are spinning in China. WTF are the words of the day. They own us. How dare our State Department indulge in such language.
A look at a map of the contested areas makes the Chinese claims seem ludicrous.
Then again, actual geographic location may not matter in such things; like the Brits owning that little piece of real estate off the coast of Argentina (or Gibraltar)...;-)
China and Russia back Syria and Iran.
China and Russia (and Belarus and the Ukraine, etc) are investing in oil production, satellite technology and launch services, arms plants -- making "loans" and investments to Hugo Chavez, and other Marxist leaders in our hemisphere.
The president and his science and technology (most likely all of Obama's czars and agency heads) have stated it is better for the world when the U.S. isn't number one.
The president and his party are salivating over cutting our military defenses, slowing our energy production, crippling the middle class and small business, and putting as many Americans on the dole as they possibly can.
The president and his administration have encouraged violence on our borders, blocked voter ID, stripped the work rule from welfare reform, pandered on amnesty and stepped up surveillance on Americans.
Our allies are insulted and left hanging in the breeze.
China is hosted to a state dinner in the White House.
Putin is told defenses in Europe will be more flexible when he is reelected.
The president churns out EOs (with more on the way, including Internet control) to remove liberty, just like an emperor (Obama said how much he likes how China can get things done).
