NEW YORK (AP) -- For the physician in Illinois, the attorney in Kentucky, the arts editor in Oregon, their Eagle Scout medals were treasured reminders of youthful achievement. Yet each is parting with his medal out of dismay over the Boy Scouts' recently reaffirmed policy of excluding gays.

In contrast to Obama, Republican candidate Mitt Romney does have a public position on the Scouts' policy -- he politely disagrees with it.
Back in 1994, during a political debate in Massachusetts, Romney said this: "I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation."
A Romney spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, said in an e-mail that this remains Romney's position today.

Obama hasn't even taken a position on Boy Scouts so Romney to the left of him on the issue.
Romney is the father of gay marriage, favors gays in the military and homosexual adoption. FUMR!
Romney worthless POS. Only someone with their head up their ass can't understand what a disaster he will be for the conservative movement and Republican party.
1010, this is the article on FREE REPUBLIC where I first saw the offending lines about Mitt Romney. First, I thought the title diverted the reader from the truth...that Mitt Romney HAD COME OUT in support of gays in the Boy Scouts.
So, since we cannot post the SAME article, a rule of Free Republic's, I went about find an article with a title that more adequately portrayed Mitt's position. I found it at Zimbio.
That article was removed from the sidebar for some reason, probably that it was from a blog or something like that, so I set about finding another article, and found the one from Christian News. Note the dates and times on the article below. Aug3, Aug 5, 1 am.
The word had gotten out to the Christian community about Romney's gayness by then, and they were appalled, as am I.

OK, I take your word for it, although I don’t know Vern. Zimbio is a very weird site for a conservative and PerezHilton.com even moreso.
My statement still stands. There is nothing new in this information about Romney. He’s not conservative. That’s known, but I also know Obama. He’s literally the worst that Cook County Democratic corruption can create. The average Cook County Democrat doesn’t hate America, doesn’t want to destroy what she stands for and wouldn’t kow tow to our enemies.
Romney despite all his absurd stances is better, much better. His statement on homosexuals and the Boy Scouts is nuanced. Romney states that he respects the freedom of association. Obama would force it on the Scouts. That’s a big world of difference.
My tagline is First Do No Harm. If Goode gets Obama re-elected that’s real harm. If you create a void you’d better fill it or the enemy will. Losing isn’t an option.
1010, I truly do understand your concern. What you must understand is that a Christian who believes as I do CANNOT vote for Romney, who believes as he does.
So, what do we do? We look for an acceptable 3rd party candidate. I have found him in Virgil Goode, a lifelong conservative who is running as the Constitution Party candidate.
I must also have a valid objective, if I think it possible but improbable that Goode will catch on. My objective is to help build the Constitution Party into America’s 2nd political party, a true conservative party.
Perhaps Romney can pull this out...I don’t know. If he doesn’t, you should come and join us.
By the way, I do know what PSYOPS is. I was chaplain for a SOCOM unit once upon a time during the GHWBush years.
Please click on my name and go to my freeper site.
I see your point and Romney makes me nuts. That said, I think the way to a Constitution Party is through the GOP. I believe the Democrats are nearing a crack up. It’s a great opportunity. I also believe that 4 more years of Obama will be much worse than 4 more years of Romney.
Don’t misunderstand me. Romney isn’t fooling me. I’m just not ready to vote for Cthullu, yet. My concern is that, particularly in Ohio and other battleground states, if conservatives abandon the GOP Obama wins.
If that happens Obama will be vindicated. The MSM will crow and we’ll be eating it. He’ll be worse than ever in a 2nd term. If he’s repudiated conservatism is advanced. That’s how I see it.
I’m in Illinois, so my vote won’t count. Your vote does count. You can help defeat Obama and our conservative Congress will keep him in check. We’ve got a long way to go and it must start this November.
Best to you.
So you think Obama has a better shot at improving the economy than does Romney? Now that would be funny if it weren't so serious! If Obama continues his spending, I question whether or not this nation will ever recover.
1010, to question the veracity of my service in the military, and my career as a chaplain is on you. Marlowe and Jim Robinson above both know my name and can put it in google with Chaplain, Methodist, US Army, and I'm confident they can verify my identity. I don't lightly put that stuff on the web, so I'm sure you'll accept their vouching for me. I've been on FR since 1998, I've always told the same story, and I think they're comfortable vouching for me in any case. There is an infrequent visitor, a friend from Oklahoma, Vern, who actually witnessed my time in service. Vern isn't on FR often, but if he shows up, his word is first hand knowledge.Yep, I is here...occasionally. You can count on xzins, and as far as I'm concerned, his positions are solid. I deeply appreciate xzins service for our country.
Thanks, Vern. I didn’t know how often you show up on FR, but I appreciate your appearance tonight and your vouching for my military service.
There is a lot you can comment about, but you resort to childishness. First of all, Romney did not reaffirm the position, one of his spokesmen did. The headline from the original story is not what is indicated on this thread; FR is not monitoring its headlines and people here are now acting like liberals.
First, he supports the Boy Scout's position, but we will ignore that. Then he clintonizes himself. OK, that was eighteen years ago. Romney, not one of his aides, needs to be personally asked about this contradictory statement. In addition, this headline needs to be corrected.
But there's more to this story. Andrea Saul seems to be very un-witty. She's been criticized for her lousy responses to questions. On Hannity, Ann Coulter said that Saul should be fired for her gaffes.
Truth and objectivity are important - - sorry to see them go.
OK, then. There’s nothing like anonymous posting to build confidence. ;-]
Do you know any freepers in real life? If so, how would you go about proving it and preserving their anonymity? I think you’d hope for a bit of trust. You’d also have to wonder why one freeper would say that he knows another.
I guess there could be some kind of payoff system? Maybe the going rate for confirming identity on FR is a hundred bucks.
And you resort to philosophy instead of God! So ZIP IT!
Colossians 2:8 "See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ".
And this stands....
Anything good for America, godless Romney hates!
Because YOU envision two paths?
You are without morals by your own admission.
You are shameless by your choice of a man you
admit is liar as your leader for whom who admitted
are on your knees.
What "judge" picks liars, and leaders ... over the Law?
RomneyBOTs like you.
ObamaBOTs like you.
Wake up.
There is a third path, and there always was.
Yours is a sensible posting on a forum that has an increasing amount of nonsense.
