That is 1/3 of the velocity needed to escape the gravity well. with more power and a longer rail we could take out satelites. Of course hitting them might be a little tricky.

There’s a pretty extensive literature on railgun satellite launch if you go through IEEE journals.

Also, surprisingly, quite a bit of work was done in the 80s on railgun terminal ballistic missile defense with guided projectiles.

I wonder. They would have radar, laser, and GPS aiming and tracking capability, plus advance knowledge of exactly how far the satelite is and exactly what direction and how fast it is moving. Also, satelites can not take evasive action.
