Some do not support Smith’s being fired as he was on his own time, not on company business.
But the cavalier way in which he berated and hounded that young girl offers a mirror into the man’s soul. I doubt this is the first time he treated others, especially those in subservient positions who are complete innocents, in such a cruel way. And then to post it for the world to see - the man is sick.
I bet dimes to dollars somewhere in his contract is a clause about holding up the company image even in the off hours. I have been seeing this pop up more and more with salaried types (and you BET he is salary, bare minimum? yes. Bonus', stocks, etc, etc. butter his bread.
too bad, so sad for him.
If he worked on the loading dock, I would agree.
He was the frigging CFO. Maybe on the BOD. Officers of the company can't do crap like that, publicize it, and get away with it.
You can get away with murder in the top spots, but you have to be discrete about it.

I am willing to wager anyone that if you were a fly on the wall at Vande, this guy is was and always will be a pompus piece of shit that thinks he can(could) do and say whatever and where ever he want.,True, but if you are on the Exec team of a major corp you need to “filter” your actions and hate speech or pay the price. So long ass hole
“Some do not support Smiths being fired as he was on his own time, not on company business.”
That might be a typical opinion for lower level employees, who never really think things through like management must.
This guy was an officer, and the company has customers, and suppliers, auditors, and other employees.
Putting himself out publicly in such a manner can attract a lot of negative attention, and his superiors decided they don’t need the hassle.
The same would have applied had the board of Chik-Fil-A decided to can the COO for his remarks.
Freedom carries consequences.
In my work, I have had dealings with gay people, client, agent, etc. And guess what? It never came up.
People who must bring it up too often, piss others off immensely, I think.
Guess the moron should of read his employment contract before making a big deal out of his position to bully a defenseless teen age girl doing her job. He was fired with cause. Yhe company is well within it’s rights to expect a minimal level of professionalism from their Executives. It is one of the reason they get the big pay checks, they are always on duty, they have no “personal time”
The irony is that I have read for days online about how (not here obviously) that A CEO REPRESENTS THE COMPANY’S VALUES AND SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS.
Well, guess what Adam Smith, you little HATEfilled snot, you learned that the hard way that it goes BOTH WAYS.
The company reserves the right to discharge any employee for misconduct.
You go into a critical business meeting and your potential client recognizes this dick-head. Do you explain that he was on his own time as the now-lost-client is walking out the door?
Not me....not in my business. He's gone....period.
If I remember my bookeeping class from long ago, one of the important listable assets of a company is its Reputation.
A company's CFO performing in such a brutish manner, while purposefully filming his actions, then putting the film out for full and open public access ... well, it sure seems to me that he was willfully disregarding the impact his actions would have on a very critical company asset -- its Reputation.
Their immediate action to terminate the negative impact this walking disaster was having to the value of one of their most important assets seems perfectly logical to me.
And I would suspect their action was not only supported by, but probably recommended by, their lawyer(s).
After this, continuing to do so became untenable.
Lunch time is company time. He wasn’t an hourly worker.
