My mom had an uncle who had a chicken farm in northwest NJ when I was young. Whenever we’d visit she’d make us go with him to feed the chickens. There is NO WORSE SMELL in the world than a chicken house. Especially when there were baby chicks she’d make us go. As I got older I’d say but mom, it STINKS IN THERE.
For the love of Elvis, that’s one smell that sticks in your nose forever.
Chicken-poop is laden with ammonia; it can almost burn-out your eyes and nose if the ventilation isn't adequate.
Ever been inside a hog barn, in 100°F weather, wearing hip-waders, right after their noon feeding? Dear God!!!!!
Horse manure smells "sweet" compared to those two. I used to take all neighboring farms' horse manure, mixed w/ hay, and compost it with crop residue, leaves, municipal grass mowings etc - all delivered to me in semi-trailers - to fertilizer the fields. The pile was 25-30,000 TONS in a season. That was a lot to turn 2x/yr in a JD backhoe, but was free and perfect 3-3-3 fert.sweet
