“In 1968 Bob Beaman broke the world long jump record by nearly 2 feet (1 ft. 10 in.). He beat the record by about 7%.”
Ummm...what ever happened to “innocent until proven guilty?”. I remember when Beamon’s jump was analyzed and criticized over and over again...it was the air, the wind, his shoes, “magic wonder drugs”...his “genes”...(i.e., he’s black)...nothing. people thought that record would NEVER be broken. It is STILL the Olympic record. But it WAS broken elsewhere.
They keep samples for doping tests eight years and they have the right to withdraw medals. Isn’t that enough? Can’t she have her moment in the sun? What if this was an American? The vast majority of these athletes don’t make a nickel on their Olympic performance and their families go broke over it. This seems like a no-win situation. People complain if you screw up...and then, they complain when you do great!
Of course she can. Rosie Ruiz had upwards of, what, about 15 minutes?
I agree with you. Just think, if the brothers and sistas weren’t afraid of the water all kinds of swimming records would fall. The Chinese girl may be the one in a billion women capable of such a feat. Those East German women were growing beards and were the obvious product of steroid use. I don’t believe that blood doping could produce such a remarkable feat by a female. Let the American coach prove it or shut up. Now he has the Chinese coach calling into question Phelp’s effort in 2008.
