At the urging of senior advisor Valerie Jarrett, President Barack Obama canceled the operation to kill Osama bin Laden on three separate occasions before finally approving the May 2, 2011 Navy SEAL mission, according to a new book scheduled for release August 21, The Daily Caller (DC) reported.
In Leading From Behind: The Reluctant President and the Advisors who Decide for Him, Richard Miniter writes that Obama canceled the mission in January 2011, again in February, and a third time in March.
Valerie Jarrett, a senior advisor and assistant to the president for Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, reportedly persuaded Obama to hold off each time, the book reveals, according to The DC.
Miniter, a two-time New York Times best-selling author, cites an unnamed source with Joint Special Operations Command who had direct knowledge of the operation and its planning.
Obama administration officials said after the raid that the president had delayed giving the order to kill the arch-terrorist the day before the operation was carried out, in what turned out to be his fourth moment of indecision.
At the time, the White House blamed the delay on unfavorable weather conditions near bin Ladens compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. However, when Miniter obtained that days weather reports from the U.S. Air Force Combat Meteorological Center, he said, they showed ideal conditions for the SEALs to carry out their orders.
President Obamas greatest success was actually his greatest failure, Miniter told The DC. Leading From Behind, he said, traces six key decisions of the Obama administration, and shows how the president made them, or, in many cases, failed to make them.
The president has made the assassination of Osama bin Laden a focal point in his re-election campaign, calling it one of the "gutsiest calls of any president in recent history."

Special Forces operators, such as SEALs, are chosen for both their physical stamina/capacity AND their intelligence and analytical abilities.
There’s no way that the servicemen in SpecOps wouldn’t be able to quickly connect the dots if their own leadership set a bunch of their own up to die in order to keep inconvienient mission facts hidden, or that they would sit idly by and tolerate it.
It might have been more valuable to have taken Osama alive and gotten information out of him--but the ACLU and other groups would have turned the case into a real nightmare, and Obama's "anti-torture" rules would have prevented him from asking Osama anything.
With all due respect, Tank, there is no way the US would abandon its southern boarder, no way the congress would pass a huge health care legislation without reading it, no way 50% of Americans would embrace socialism. No way.. you get the picture. I just threw out some conjecture and I appreciate your response. I hope to the Lord you are right, but my heart is troubled.
What if:
Bin Ladin was killed in an early strike during the Bush administration. He was declared alive to keep the war machine cranking. Obama was saving the kill for a rainy day, such as when the phony Birth Cert was about to be called out in a presser. Had to bury bin Ladin at sea because the effects of deep freezing was visable. Seal team needed to disappear after they were used. Is this possible in the real world?

With this new info I’m beginning to wonder...

Maybe Osama was killed in that raid and maybe he wasnt. We have no way of actually knowing. We were given a song and dance about adhering to Muslim culture. Although the Seal Team was wearing video cameras, we have no pictures of Osama while he was alive or after he was dead. All we have is a picture of people pushing something over the side of a boat into the water. For all we know, that could have been a roll of carpet. It appears that those who could have shed some light on what happened are no longer with us. What we do know is that the cover-up associated with Osama is consistent with many other events in Obamas life.
for later
As I understand it from a former Seal, Seal Team 6 is a generic designation. The actual name of the now disbanded and informally called Seal Team 6 is classified. I never could got a clear answer from him as to the structure and naming conventions of the Navy’s special forces commonly refereed to as Seal Teams.
I wear my tinfoil hat when necessary but not on whether Osama was killed and especially not on killing Seal Team 6 to cover up irregularities on killing Osama. I will give Obamassiah credit for his continuing campaign of killing them when and where he finds them. Maybe water boarding them for intel is better but killing them is o’k by me.
But I must say I like the idea that Bush covered up Osama’s death so that we could play “whack-a-mole” with the terrorists. I was concerned that if we killed Osama too soon we would declare victory and quit killing terrorist too soon.
This entire story and that part of Miniter’s book is just pure nonsense.
Anybody remember Dr. Afridi? We recruited him to get into bin Laden’s compound under the guise of a hepatitis inoculation program. That op was needed because we just weren’t sure whom were in the compound.
That op involved 25 tasking and travel contacts with our CIA team in March and April of 2011. After that op terminated mid-April, and we had acquired enough other intel, we waited until the next dark of the moon that occurred on May 2, 2011, the day of the raid.
It’s all a matter of record and science. Obama made the call, that any responsible President would have done. I am no fan of Jarrett but we make ourselves look foolish with pathetic attacks like this.
I am tired of all these “insiders” writing no better than trash novels with a laughable lack of research.
....and how much of it is raw meat to bait conservatives into embarassing themselves?
Good Point.
These writer are all trying to cash in on the bin Laden raid with the most ridiculous scenarios and anti-Obama types just lap it up.
I’m as conservative as anyone but don’t understand how journalists fall for any book without checking the facts themselves.
They’re saying this book has blockbuster revelations. I guarantee Miniter has chained himself to Hannity’s desk. I love Sean but he gets hustled sometimes because one of his producers gets him lit up.
Rachel Maddow and her ilk will let Fox News get hustled and then throw out the points I just did and we all end up looking like fools.
