What is un-American is for a government official to use the power of the government to punish an individual or a company for holding and following views shared by the majority.

I disagree with the bolded part. What is un-American is for a government official to use the power of the government to punish an official or a company for holding and following views, period. Doesn't matter if those views are shared by the majority, a minority, or just that official or conpany. It would be just as un-American for a government official to do the same thing to, say, JC Penny or Target.
