I like what I’ve seen of McDonnell.
Probably a good pick.
Virgina is a must win and McDonnell would play well in the mid-west battleground states of WI, IA and CO.
Rubio is a good pick but FL is probably already a Red State and I’m not sure he could move NM and NV to the Red Side.
Romney’s obvious choice, IMHO.
I think McDonnell would be a great pick. He can’t run for governor again, he’s a true conservative, and he can help in Virginia, which Obama is trying to steal. Overall, he’s the best of the lot.
I’m not from Virginia and so cannot criticize those Virginia FReepers who seem to look askance at Governor Bob McDonnell as Romney’s possible VP pick. However, unless McDonnell has some huge skeleton in his closet, his record looks firmly conservative and he seems a reasonable choice. His state being crucial in the election simply gives him an extra bit of an edge. I still like Rubio or Jindal but could support McDonnell, too. I’m sure he could make mincemeat out of Joe Biden in a debate. Then again, who couldn’t?
And he's there every Sunday. He attends the same church that my daughter does.
He’d be a bad pick, but a pick I could see Romney making.
His antediluvian college thesis or whatever it was shows if anything Romney will get it all wrong while supposedly catering to the moderate/independent vote:
McDonnell is someone who would scare moderates on social issue—which is where such voters get scared.
VA - where Newt was kept off the ballot.
Ryan, Ryan, Ryan.
Romney McDonnell. Sounds like a clown.
Govenors with less than one term in office - they are great if tehy are men, but not Sarah...go figure. For me I want someone like Pawlenty who is not in office, the VP job is 0 importance jsut look at Al Gore or Biden or even Chaney. Leave the good guys in the senate and heading their states.
That would be great! I live in NJ, not VA, but I have followed McDonnell. He would be an asset to the ticket.
My opinion of McDonnell is that if he’d actually stuck to his guns on privatizing the State ABC stores, and maybe picked a couple of other things to privatize (say, state parks) then he would have set the stage for a national platform for himself.
Afterall, at the federal level, assets will need to be sold and functions privatized to a high degree if we are ever going to have a prayer of denting our national debt. He didn’t care enough to get it done.
He has done little of note as Governor, more status quo than anything. His lack of zeal for challenging the status quo makes me think he’d be at best a “ho-hum” pick, though I must say the lack of personal charisma amongst the two would have humor value as a spectator.
I think he could do better - say Ryan or some other more high profile pick that appears to be willing to challenge established bureaucracy and spending.
Romney/McDonnell - makes me want to go grab a Big Mac. But, I think it’s a good ticket.
McConnell is alright, but I will lose any respect I have for him if he runs with that loser Romney.
NOTHING will make me vote for Romney. I’m tired of being abused by the GOP.
