It hadn't been two decades since the feminist movement of the '60s when Walter Mondale announced Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate in 1984. Five years after Britain elected Margaret Thatcher as its first female prime minister, Americans also welcomed the idea of a woman holding a significant position of power.
The late Ferraro was an educated woman. She served her own jurisdiction as district attorney and went on to win a seat in the House of Representatives in 1979. Four years later, Mondale took a chance on her. She made history as the Democrat Party's first female vice presidential nominee.
In their campaign against Reagan/Bush in '84, the Mondale/Ferraro ticket wound up losing in a landslide. Nevertheless, it could be argued that Ferraro's significance in the race carried what energy the ticket had. They won 34 million American votes -- 40% of the popular vote.
Though the results were disappointing, Democrat operatives and talking heads managed to move forward without consistently dragging Ferraro's name through the mud.

She is so much more powerful than the PDSers give her credit for, no matter WHAT position she is in. Without her, we wouldn’t have the conservatives in office today that we have. It will take her, or someone like her (possible, but unlikely in this day and age) to get our country back on the right track. I hope and pray (whether she is ever a Pres Nominee again or not) that she will be given the voice to help us straighten this mess that has been destroying our country for the last 8 decades.
This is a little perplexing to Americans who now hear what some members of the GOP are saying about Sarah Palin. Joe Scarborough recently advised the party to avoid “the perils of Palin.” An unnamed Romney adviser claims she “poisoned the well” for women in the GOP. A New Hampshire paid politico and 2008 state Republican Party chairman believes that Palin was the “error of 2008.” This dismayed Tea Party members who believe that the “error of 2008” was Barack Obama.
If all this isn't enough, Karl Rove earlier this year declared that Palin’s endorsement wasn't “worth snot.”

There it is again....attention folk!s....an “I LIKE SARAH BUT is on the thread.
The party grandees and the Romniacs have attacked both her and the “tea party” conservatives viciously from the start.
Back when we were in a tough fight trying to stop Obama’s steamroller, during the first year or so of his administration, it was Palin and the “tea party” who stood up and fought while the party establishment was in disarray and Romney himself no where to be found. I said a hundred times during that period that Romney was AWOL during the fight of the century and therefore had no right to be president. A leader leads, and he was no leader. Palin, on the other hand, even with no official position, leads.
The “tea party” is the GOP rank and file. When the supposed elites and the Romniacs attack the tea party they are attacking the membership of their own party. They want our votes. Its us they don’t like.
I agree with others, that if in the aftermath of this election a new party forms it will be around Palin and a few like-minded people. If Romney loses to O, you will see an uprising among the rank and file that makes the tea party uprising look like a tea party. And if he wins and squanders his chance to roll back Obamism, the party will break.
The GOP are wimps. They do not like being the center of attention and blamed by all the medias. So they desire to be in second position. It takes the heat off and still they have the power, privilege, and often for life positions by which they become multi-millionaires, rich.
I once gave them credit for behaving more Christian and thus kinder, gentler, and more honestly. NO MORE. They are wanting their position for life and do nothing to stand our and get criticized for it.
There is no honor among 98% of them. We expect the liberals to cheat and cheat they do, lie, steal, false voters, etc. They do what they do BECAUSE IT WORKS!!!!! over and over ... it WORKS! God help us.

Just as we've seen Obama unmasked with his comments about "you didn't build that," with these comments we see the GOP-E unmasked...
I honestly think that SHE is what it took to wake up many Conservatives to see what the GOP(e) is really all about.
I myself am no longer Republican. I didn’t unregister as one, but I will MAKE SURE that whomever I am voting for is Conservative and will stand their ground, unlike the RINO pundits..
I totally understand (as far as public information is available.. I am sure there is a LOT more involved) with her making the choice to pull out.. She has smarts that many can’t fathom.. and she obviously knew that it wasn’t an uphill battle.. it was climbing up a mile high cliff with no rope.
I have hope that she will work her way in; I have faith in her decisions... I just hope that it won’t be too late :/
The way the Republicans, including that fink Karl Rove, have treated Palin is one of the reasons I say that I am a conservative first and a Republican second. Anytime the GOP conflicts with my conservative values I feel no sense of loyalty to them. Frankly, I hate the RINO’s morwe than I hate the Democrats because the Democrats are at least honest about being anti-conservative.
By not running she removed herself as the lightning rod. She could sit back and be the power broker, regain strenth, reload. Expect her one day to come out with both her and Dude’s guns blaring. He’s become an even more important part of the package and this fall’s reality show will cement that....The film’s in the can! A few posters of those actions shots will do more to convince female voters, then anything Jill Biden could say or do.
Unlike other political couples, Dude’s slow talkin, strong acting, union member, business man will be a strength no other spouse of a politician running for national office can offer.
That is a really good point... I’ve heard that many women are jealous of her..
Maybe he will help get her popularity up with the women.. :)
BTW, there is nothing for women to be jealous about.. each person should be themselves (not try to look like/act like anyone else).. This is a part of what makes her so unique in this day and age. She speaks her mind, and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks (but the majority of people (Conservatives) agree with who and what she is. This personality is what makes good leaders... Up front and honest.
In my view, Sarah was defeated by her OWN party.
It’s largely because of how she was treated by the Republican establishment that I no longer consider myself a Republican. I’m a CONSERVATIVE, not a Republican.
Mitt Romney is a Republican. He never gained the support of Conservatives, but he got the nomination anyway. The Republican establishment made sure of that.
Personally, I no longer believe the Republican party represents my views. The Republicans will lead us to ruin as surely as the Democrats, just a little bit slower.
If Sarah ever runs I hope it’s under the CONSERVATIVE flag. If that means she and her supporters take over the Republican party, that’s OK. If it means she leads a new party that destroys the Republican establishment in the process, that’s GREAT.
Unfortunately, I don’t think either of those things will actually happen unless things get really bad in this country first. Once the vast majority of people can see how badly the established political parties have blown it perhaps the door will be open to restoring the country I love. But we will see social upheaval unlike anything we’ve ever seen before first. Obama’s free “stuff” army is so large that the nation will sink into chaos if their free ride even gets reduced. They’ll burn the cities down if it gets taken away.
The upshot from chaos like this could be a totalitarian dictatorship that restores “order”, or it could be a return to the “land of the free” and the “home of the brave”. It’s not at all clear which side would win.
As for Sarah leading that fight, her awkward withdrawal raises major doubts in my mind about whether she has the stomach for the battle. Unfortunately, I don’t see an alternative leader either. Right now we seem to be an “army” without a General.
Yes, I have to say, there have just been two ‘watershed’ situations that have dictated the course of my political life and political outlook. The first was the advent of Reagan, who brought back a vibrant, full-fledged return of patriotism and common-sense conservatism that was so unbelievably needed at the time, and led me to my longstanding allegiance to the GOP as a voter.
It took almost thirty years for the second watershed situation, and that was the combination of the GOP’s cowardice/backstabbing, when it came to defending Palin when she was under insane levels of assault... from deliberate attempts by political operatives to financially bankrupt her, to driving her out of her office, to her church being torched, to the dragging of her kids through the mud, to being accused of moral complicity in the Tucson mass-murder, and well beyond. The way so many in the GOP not only declined to speak up in her defense, but also joined in with the liberal media ‘wilding’ of her and her family, has managed to totally flush away every bit of allegiance I had towards the Party since the Reagan era. Four years ago, I could never have predicted I’d now harbour such a sick, bleak view of the GOP as I currently do.
Palin is the model for the new GOP to replace the rotted carcase of the present one.
She should have been the GOP nominee, and when she wasn’t she backed Newt, just like I did.
Romney was never her guy and he isn’t mine.
The GOP left me for Romney. Sarah Palin is ABO, and I want the Marxist ousted, so I’m still praying for a miracle in Tampa!
